    Weekly Book Recap #20

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Book Journey.

Last week I thought I was only going to be able to finish The Book Thief but at my doctor’s appointment on Thursday I failed the 1 hour glucose test. Therefore, Friday I spent the majority of my morning at the doctor’s office having the 3 hour glucose test done which means I had lots of time to finish a second book and start on a third. Today, I am waiting on the results of the 3 hour glucose test and hope to get some good news!

    What I Read:

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George

    Currently Reading:

    Hate List by Jennifer Brown

    Up Next:

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak #Review

    Title: The Book Thief
    Author: Markus Zusak

    Genre: Young Adult, Historical Fiction
    Format: Hardcover, 550 pages

Publisher: Knopf Books for Young Readers
    Publication Date: March 14th 2006

By her brother’s graveside, Liesel Meminger finds her life changed when she picks up a single object, partially hidden in the snow. It is The Grave Digger’s Handbook, left there by accident, and it is her first act of book thievery. So begins a love affair with books and words, as Liesel, with the help of her accordion-playing foster father, learns to read. Soon she is stealing books from Nazi book-burnings, the mayor’s wife library, wherever there are books to be found.

But these are dangerous time. When Liesel’s foster family hides a Jewish man in their basement, Liesel’s world is both opened up and closed down.

In superbly crafted writing that burns with intensity, award-winning author Markus Zusak has given us one of the most enduring stories of our time.

    Review

As I sit here and reflect on this book, I’m not even sure where to begin. The Book Thief is such an amazing read and there are so many feelings that will surface as you read it. There are books out there that just grab your soul and hold on and for me, this is definitely one of those books.

I fell in love with the characters. Liesel has already been through a traumatic experience when she is sent to live with the Hubermanns. Her younger brother died on the trip there and her book thieving begins when she finds The Grave Digger’s Handbook in the snow. Hans Hubermann was such a kind man and every time he suffered, I wanted to cry. I’ll admit that I didn’t care for Rosa Hubermann at first, but when Max shows up in their kitchen half-dead from starvation and she just feeds him and accepts him into her home, I instantly realized I had misjudged her character.

Death is the narrator of this book and it’s such a unique story that takes place in Germany during the Holocaust. I think it’s so good because there are several different sides shown. We see Liesel go through the different stages of life while also struggling with knowing what is right. The moment she realizes she hates Hitler and how he is making them live was heartbreaking and relieving at the same time.

If you are looking for a quick read, this is not the book for you. If you don’t like intense situations where the outcome will break your heart, this book is also not for you. However, if you are looking for a fantastic read that will play with your emotions so to speak, this is the book for you.

Title: Forever Begins With a Kiss
    Author: Zoe York

    Publisher: Ink Heart Authors
    Publication Date: September 15, 2015

I received an eARC copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Chase & Mari tie the knot. WARNING: This book overflows with sexy hockey players, frothy wedding details, and frivolous sex scenes.

    Review

Let me start off by saying that I absolutely love the Wardham series and all of the characters in it! This novella is book 8 in the series and is the follow up for No Time Like Forever where we get the bulk of Chase and Mari’s story.

Chase and Mari are so adorable and the wedding is great! Of course, there is some family drama but what wedding would be complete without that? This is a very sweet story and a great continuation.

He hooked one arm behind her back and another under her knees, then lifted. Placing her on the leather seat, they were nearly the same level as he stared into the depth of her clear eyes. Pressure bloomed below his belt and short-circuited his brain.
“Thank you, again.” Monica tilted her head and smiled. Her breath caressed his cheek in warm puffs and he wondered how her kiss would feel…how she would taste. Wondered what moves she owned and might use on him.
His shoulders crowded the door space as he leaned in the car. She released a tiny sigh. Their mouths were inches apart. His fingers itched to discover the texture of her hair and test the softness of her skin. The heat in her eyes matched the fire in his blood, beckoning to him before lowering to settle on his lips.
Did she want him to kiss her? Finn parted his lips in anticipation.

He’d never found danger to be a turn-on but apparently he’d found a brand-new world with Monica Beggs.
