His dark seduction will be her undoing…
After being cruelly jilted by a lord who claimed to adore her, Miss Payton Peppiwell swore her future husband would be as ordinary as she. Now if only her family would listen to her. Then she meets Mikhail Konstantinovich, an untitled horse breeder, in a highly improper and scandalous encounter. Never had Payton expected to be so attracted to the dark, intriguing man, who seduces her to recklessness with a mere stare.
Mikhail abhors anything to do with intimacy. Yet Miss Peppiwell stirs hunger and a need long forgotten in him. But Mikhail has a dark past—one that means his lust must be sated in a way entirely unsuitable for a lady. But his biggest secret will be the hardest for Payton to overcome: Mikhail is not only titled, he’s a prince
Review
This is book 4 in the Scandalous House of Calydon series but it’s the first one I have read. I didn’t have any problems following along so it can easily be read as a standalone. Historical Romance is one of my favorite genres and I absolutely loved this book!

Payton is an American who is being brought into the London social scene by her parents so that she can make a match with a Lord. She meets Mikhail who she thinks is a horse breeder with no title. However, he is a prince trying to keep a low profile. Payton has sworn she will not marry anyone who isn’t as ordinary as she is so this proves to be a problem.

I loved watching the characters grow and develop throughout this story. There were some steamy scenes that were well written. I’d highly recommend this book. I know I’ll be reading the rest of the series.

Interview
I’m honored to have Stacy Reid stop by the blog today for an interview. Be sure to check out her website www.stacyreid.com for more information on her books!

Thank you for having me.

How did you decide which genre to write?
I’ve always loved all things paranormal. It is my favourite genre to read in, and this translated to me writing in the same genre. I stumbled onto Historical Romance (HR). I love reading HR, but I never really thought about writing books in that genre until Entangled Publishing sent out a call for submission in 2013. I really wanted to publish with them, and when I saw they were actively looking for historical novellas, I sat down and crafted the first book in the Scandalous House of Calydon series, The Duke’s Shotgun Wedding, and submitted! It was accepted and I was offered a contract for the series…and the rest is in the wind. Now I write in both paranormal fantasy and Historical romance genre and I cannot imagine giving up either.
What do you like to do when you aren’t writing?

Read! I have a mountain of books on my kindle and I add books daily. I now have over 800 stories waiting on me, and while I try to read at least 10 books monthly my TBR pile keep growing. I also love watching anime (my current favourite are Naruto Shippuden and Full Metal Alchemist) I also enjoy playing video games.

Where did you get the inspiration for The Royal Conquest?
I actually got an email from a reader of the series asking me if I intend to write Payton Peppiwell’s book, because her heart ached for her. I had mentioned Payton being jilted in book 2. I’d toyed with the idea but did not see a clear cut story for her. Then one night I was re watching coming to America with my hubby and I was like to him “After what that ass did to Payton she deserves a prince.” Ha! And I jumped up, ran to the laptop and started outlining her story.
 What’s up next for you?
I have a new regency series (a trilogy) which will be published by Entangled Publishing in 2016. I’m also working on Scandalous House of Calydon 5 and 6 to be released in 2016!  I’ve also recently published my first Paranormal fantasyEternal Darkness, and the second book Eternal Flames will be available January 4th 2016!

Dirty things, nasty things, forbidden things.

His attention is completely inappropriate, but I can’t say no. The way he looks at me… the way he watches me through my bedroom window… the way he drags me deeper and deeper into his completely forbidden fantasy world just… turns me on.

EXCERPT:

“You came,” he says, after a few moments of rest. His eyes open and he looks straight at me. “You came in my mouth.”
I just stare back. Unable to talk. Unable to comprehend what he’s saying. “You’re a liar.”
He smiles. “But I’m a good one, right?”
“What?”
“You believed me. And you know why you believed me, Shannon?”
“That never happened?”
He scoffs. “Please, how drunk would you have to be for me to suck you off and never wake you up? Do you know why you believed me?”
“You’re a psycho,” I say, floored.
“Because you want to believe me.”
I shake my head slowly. “I don’t believe you. You’re a very good liar, Mateo. And that’s not something to be proud of.”
“Right. So why are you so sure Danny Alexander is the nice one, and not me?”
“Because look at you,” I scoff. “You’re such a fucking freak.”
“I’m sitting here in a chair, masturbating as I tell you a fantasy, Shannon. It’s hot.” And then he laughs. “You know it is.”
“It’s weird,” I say. “I’m speechless with you most of the time because you’re blowing my fucking mind. You make no sense to me. You don’t follow the rules.”
“Whose rules? Your rules?”
“School rules, for one. You’re my fucking teacher!”
“Technically, no. I’m a subcontractor. But ethically, yes.”
“It’s the ethics that count, don’t you think?”
“So walk out. Report me to Bowman. Call the police. Do whatever the fuck you want.”
My thoughts are racing around in my head. “Maybe I will.”
“At least you’d be invested. At least you’d stop just sitting here, begging me to get you out of this.”
“Beg you!” Holy shit. “To get me out of what?” I just want to punch him in the fucking face right now.
“Life.”
“OK,” I huff. “I’m done here.” I push my chair back to stand, but his words stop me.
“You want to skate through school, you said, take tests and call it learning. You want the prize without the work that goes into it. You want things you don’t deserve.”
“You don’t know what I deserve,” I say quietly. “You have no idea what I deserve.”
“I know,” he says, nodding. “But I do know what you don’t deserve. And you can deny it all you want, it won’t change the fact that you didn’t earn it. I’m asking you to earn it.”
“Earn what, Mateo? You make no sense.”
“It.” he replies. And then he lifts his hands up towards the ceiling.
“What’s any of this,” I say, lifting my hands up in the same way, “have to do with sex?”
He just smiles. “Nothing at all. It’s got nothing at all to do with sex. I just like you and I want to fuck you, and tease you, and play you. Not like that,” he says, seeing the anger inside me building. “Not like a victim, Shannon. Like an instrument.”
He reaches over for a roll of paper towels sitting on the table next to him, rips one off, and cleans up the mess on his stomach. He throws it into the trash, stands up, and puts himself back together.
“If you want to walk away,” he says, grabbing his book from the table, “go ahead. Report me to Bowman, tell the police, do whatever the fuck you want. But I’m trying to tell you, I’m invested. So go date Danny Alexander if you want. You can quit this class and drop out of school. You can fuck everything up. You’re a grown woman, you can make whatever choice you feel is best. But when you look back in ten years and wonder where it all went wrong, don’t blame me, Shannon. Because I gave a fuck and you walked out.”
And then he walks out. He’s got that stupid book in his hand and he just walks out and leaves me there.
Stunned.

The Family by Marissa Kennerson #BlogTour #Review

The Family

Publisher: Full Fathom Five Digital

Release Date: October 8th 2014

Genre: Young Adult, Realistic Fiction, Cult

Just like any average seventeen year old, Twig loves her family. She has a caring mother and a controlling father. Her brothers are sisters are committed to her family’s prosperity…

All one hundred and eighty three of them.

Twig lives in the Family, a collective society located in the rainforest of Costa Rica. The Family members coexist with the values of complete openness and honesty, and a shared fear of contagious infection in the outside world.

So when Adam, their Father, prophet, and savior, announces that Twig will be his new bride, she is overjoyed and honored. But when an injury forces her to leave the grounds, Twig finds that the world outside is not necessarily as toxic as she was made to believe. When she meets Leo, an American boy with a killer smile, she begins to question everything about her life within the Family, and the cult to which she belongs.

But when it comes to your Family, you don’t always get a choice.

Review:

After reading the synopsis for this book, I instantly thought it sounded like a great read. It did not disappoint. This is the first book I’ve read that dealt with a cult and what it is like growing up in one and I found it to be well written. It felt extremely realistic.

The only complaint I have is the ending felt abrupt. I would love to see a sequel with more of Twig and Leo. I loved both of those characters and want to see their happy ending if they get one.

Genres: Superhero Romance

Everyone needs a hero.
That’s what Detective Molly Masters tells me. “What we need,” she says, “what the whole world needs,” she pleads, “is a champion.”
The only thing I want to talk about with Molly Masters is how I’d like to make her scream my name when I push her up against a wall, slide my hand up her thigh, and live out my wildest fantasies.
“Someone who will fight against injustice,” she says.
I’ll fight against anything you want, honey. Just come a little closer.
“Someone who will stand tall in the face of adversity,” she says.
I’ll do it standing, sitting, or lying down. See how easy I am?
“Someone who believes in the value of a good deed,” she says.
I believe in the value of me, sweetheart. Because I’m Lincoln Wade. Jaded genius, obscenely wealthy, capable of violence, and looking for revenge.
Molly Masters might have delusions of grandeur. She might see me as some superman capable of cleaning up the scum, filth, and corruption in Cathedral City.
But I’m not the hero she’s looking for.
I’m the dark alley where all her good intentions hide.
So be careful what you wish for, Molly Masters.

A sexy category romance from Entangled’s Brazen imprint…

He’s not who she expected, but he’s exactly the man she needs…
When Chelsea Wayne drags Santa into a supply closet for a little office party nookie, she assumes the man in the suit is her on-again/off-again coworker boyfriend. So much for her reputation, not to mention her career.
Rafe needs to close three acquisitions to prove to his father he’s ready to take the helm of St. Sebastian Enterprises. A hot interlude in a supply closet after deal number two seems like the perfect illicit Christmas bonus. Unfortunately, when that “bonus” becomes the key to the final deal, he finds himself back in bed—so to speak—with Chelsea, and after their steamy tryst, he’s not interested in keeping things professional…
Author Interview
Samanthe Beck stopped by the blog today to answer some questions. Be sure to keep reading to find out about an awesome giveaway she has going on right now and to enter.

Hi Brittany! Thanks for having me on the blog today. This is as close as I’ll come to being crafty or an engineer, so I’m honored!
1. How did you decide which genre you wanted to write?
I loved reading sexy/funny romances as far back as high school. Nora Roberts was and still is one of my go-to authors. When I started to get serious about my own stories, part of me was thinking I’d like to be a porny Nora Roberts. Some friends said, “We already have that. She’s called Jill Shalvis,” and I was like, “I love her, but I’m aiming for just a little bit pornier.” Still working on it, but that’s my goal.
2. What do you like to do when you aren’t writing?
I feel like I’m always writing! I’m a wife and a mom, so, you know, that takes up some time. I’m a lazy runner, an energetic reader, and I’m always up for a glass of wine!
3. Where did you get the inspiration for Compromising Her Position?
I have a habit of putting my characters in compromising positions, (in Private Practice, Tyler Longfoot shows up on Ellie Swann’s porch at 2:00 a.m. with a bullet in his fine ass; in Lover Undercover, reluctant stripper Kylie Roberts gives her very first lap dance to undercover LAPD detective Trevor McCade; in Falling for the Marine, Michael McCade meets his new neighbor Chloe when he rescues her from a trap of her own making—she’s handcuffed herself to her bed). The Compromise Me series takes this perverse little habit to the next level, and Chelsea kicks it off epically in Compromising Her Position when she shoves the wrong Santa into a supply closet at the work holiday party and has her merry way with him.
I have to thank model David Gandy for the idea of mistaken identity involving Santa Claus. During some exhaustive Internet…um…research, I happened across a picture of Mr. Gandy in bed, naked, save for a Santa hat. I got to thinking, what if the guy under the costume looked like this?
4. What’s up next for you?
More Brazens, (including at least one more book in the Compromise Me series). I also have a new Lovestruck series in the works, featuring some lust-worthy paramedics! If I can tempt your readers to my Facebook author page, (https://www.facebook.com/SamantheBeckWriter), I post teasers almost every Tuesday.

Thanks again for having me at The Crafty Engineer’s Bookshelf. I want to let your readers know I have a giveaway running right now to celebrate the release of Compromising Her Position. One lucky entrant will win a $50.00 Amazon gift card and print copies of my Private Pleasures series from Brazen. Get in on that!!
xoxo,
Samanthe
Review
I loved this book. From the moment I started reading it was incredibly hard to put down. The sexy case of mistaken identity in the first chapter was enough to let me know that Samanthe Beck is a writer I want to read more from.

Chelsea is a nice girl who tends to get her heart broken from being too trusting. Rafe is a man with a playboy reputation who gets thrown off guard when Chelsea pulls him into a closet for a quicky before the office holiday party where he announces that he’s her new boss. To make matters worse Chelsea thinks her boyfriend is the one dressed as Santa and is mortified to find out it isn’t him. The passion that is ignited by that closet fling is undeniably hot and I enjoyed following Chelsea and Rafe’s story.

Chelsea is a very relatable character especially since in the past I have felt like I was too nice and didn’t know how to guard my heart. This book shows that it doesn’t matter if you guard your heart or not, sometimes you still fall in love and having unattached sex tends to lead to at least one person having feelings.

This was my first book by Ms. Beck but it will not be my last.

The Billionaire’s Christmas Proposal by Victoria James #Review

Title: The Billionaire’s Christmas Proposal
Author: Victoria James

Genre: Contemporary Romance
Format: eBook, 164 pages

Publisher: Entangled: Indulgence
Publication Date: November 16th 2015

I received this ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

She’s everything he wants for Christmas…

Social worker Allison Barrington’s home went up in smoke, literally, a month before Christmas. Now the guardian of her teenage sister and a crazy pup, she shows up on the doorstep of the only man in the city she can trust. Resisting Ethan Dane had never been easy, but luckily, Allie isn’t into cutthroat playboy businessmen. And Ethan is as driven as they come.

Ethan Dane has wanted Allie since the moment he laid eyes on her at their best friends’ wedding. Having her in his home is the perfect chance to prove to her that their chemistry can’t be denied, but when he finds out that the biggest business coup of his career means destroying the youth center where Allie works, Ethan is forced to decide what kind of man he wants to be…

Review

This is such a sweet story that captured my attention from the beginning and I didn’t want to put it down. Ethan and Allie have an intense attraction but Allie is scared to let Ethan in because of her past. She has no idea that he faces demons that are worse than hers.

Ethan wants to do the right thing and help Allie save the shelter she works at but revenge is a powerful thing. Getting revenge on his brother has consumed his life for years and now he has the chance to take it but it means destroying everything Allie has worked so hard for.

I loved the chemistry between Allie and Ethan. It was intense but not overdone. Allie has this perception of Ethan that I think most normal people would have for billionaires but he proves that money doesn’t give you everything. Victoria James does an excellent job of character development and her writing style is superb. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who reads contemporary romance.

“Christmas, my child, is love in action. Every time we love, every time we give, it’s Christmas.” — Dale Evans
A week before Christmas, Jeseca Reed sets off for Blue River, Oregon—her childhood home and a vault of tender memories. However, fate takes an unexpected turn when she’s left stranded in the mountains’ vast, untamed wilderness. Desperate and alone, she seeks shelter at a cottage and finds herself in the arms of a mysterious stranger.
Dr. David Drake was once a renowned cardiovascular surgeon. But a devastating tragedy has left him scarred both inside and out, unable to use his hands to operate again. For the past five years, his Blue River cottage has been his sole escape—a safe haven where he can shut out the world, bury himself in his grief, and reunite with his son’s memory.
Together they are summer and winter. Fire and ice. And yet a poignant connection forms between them. Jeseca awakens David and thaws his heart with a romance hot enough to melt snow. But before David and Jeseca can fully embrace each other, they must wade through darkness and confront the ghosts of their pasts …
Equal parts steamy and heartfelt, A Kindled Winter brings the spirit of the holidays to life with a passionate story of second chances and relentless love.
Review
Both Jeseca and David have losses in their past that have left them grieving. Neither one has truly begun to heal until they stumble across one another. They experience a passion that allows them to open up but they must face their demons in order to overcome them.

I loved the connection between Jeseca and David and how she was able to get him to open up to her. It was so sweet. This was an emotional read and it was excellent.

This is such a beautiful, heartfelt story with plenty of steamy moments. Rachel Demeter has a way of writing characters that are very relatable. She writes a beautiful contemporary romance that has a dark/gothic feel to it that her readers have come to love in her historical romances.

The time has finally come for Duncan and Elaina to tie the knot in Greece. Jordan, Noah, Griffin, Maggie, and Miles arrive for the festivities to find chaos in Duncan missing and Elaina thinking he got cold feet. To make matters worse, Noah tries to surprise Jordan but it goes awry, Griffin was keeping major news from Maggie, and Miles just met The One but they live in different countries. Now each couple is faced with a life changing decision.

I Do is the final installment in the If Only… series and I must say it wrapped it up nicely. In the first two books we get to see Jordan and Noah as well as Griffin and Maggie get their happily ever afters. I love that as the series continues we get to see what happens after the happily ever after and that life goes on including ups and downs in the relationships of all the couples.

This story is told from the multiple viewpoints and I was a little worried about that at first. However, A.J. Pine did an excellent job with her writing and it was so easy to follow. The story felt much more involved because of this.

I’m sad that the series is over but I’m glad that it went out with a bang.

Author Bio

AJ Pine writes stories to break readers’ hearts, but don’t worry–she’ll mend them with a happily ever after. As an English teacher and librarian, AJ has always surrounded herself with books. All her favorites have one big commonality–romance. Naturally, the books she writes have the same. When she’s not writing, she’s of course reading. Then there’s online shopping (everything from groceries to shoes). And a tiny bit of TV where she nourishes her undying love of vampires and superheroes. You’ll also find her hanging with her family in the Chicago ‘burbs.

If Only by A.J. Pine
If Only… #1
Sometimes it takes crossing an ocean to figure out where you belong.

It’s been two years since twenty-year-old Jordan had a boyfriend—which means it’s been forever since she, well, you know. But now she’s off to spend her junior year in Aberdeen, Scotland, the perfect place to stop waiting for Mr. Right and just enjoy Mr. Right Now.

Sexy, sweet (and possible player) Griffin may be her perfect, no-strings-attached match. He’s fun, gorgeous, and makes her laugh. So why can’t she stop thinking about Noah who, minutes after being trapped together outside the train’s loo, kisses Jordan like she’s never been kissed before? Never mind his impossible blue eyes, his weathered, annotated copy of The Great Gatsby (total English-major porn)…oh, and his girlfriend.

Jordan knows everything this year has an expiration date. Aberdeen is supposed to be about fun rather than waiting for life to happen. But E. M. Forster, Shakespeare, and mistletoe on Valentine’s Day make her reconsider what love is and how far she’s willing to go for the right guy.

What If by A.J. Pine
If Only… #2
Sometimes it takes letting go of the past to find out who you want to be.

During his semester abroad, Griffin Reed almost gave his heart to a girl who loved someone else. Lesson learned. Now he’s home, where following in his father’s footsteps may not be what he wants, but it’s what his parents expect. It might be taking the easy road, but he doesn’t see a way out.

Something that could have killed Maggie Kendall took away the person she used to be instead. Her condition makes her dependent on sticky notes, photos, and medication just to get through each day. The last thing she needs is a distraction—or someone new to disappoint.

What they refuse to see is they are perfect for each other. Maggie makes Griffin want to be a better man, and he makes her believe a future is possible. But these two have to find a way to share the secrets ripping them apart, if they’re ever going to have a chance at happiness.
