Fiercely independent Janie Jansen has always believed there were worse things in life than being blind, and she’s spent her life proving it. She’s moved away from her overprotective parents, built a life in New York City, and is one of the top technical editors in her company. That is, until an unfortunate accident turns her life upside down and she’s forced to give up the very independence she’s worked so hard to achieve.
Firefighter Boyd Hudson pushed past his tragic past and is weeks away from accomplishing his ultimate dream—being accepted into medical school. His intense focus on his goal while working three jobs has taken its toll. With a trail of failed relationships behind him, Boyd is painstakingly aware of his limitations and avoids girlfriends completely—a difficult task given his attraction to one of his co-workers.
When Boyd comes to Janie’s rescue, she’s forced to accept his help, and Janie discovers there’s more to the sexy-sounding office flirt than one-liners. Their connection deepens as Janie heals, but it turns out that Janie isn’t the only one who needs healing. Boyd’s painful past comes back to haunt him, threatening their relationship and forcing Boyd to reevaluate everything he knows about himself.

Touched by Love is a sweet romance. While it is part of the Love in Bloom: The Remingtons series, it can be read as a stand alone. The author really takes the time to allow the reader to fall in love with these characters as they fall in love with each other.
This is the first book I have read with a blind heroine. I thought the author did a great job with describing Janie and not letting her disability define who she is. Janie has a near death experience that leads her to Boyd. She is of course hesitant at first because she doesn’t know if his intentions are true or not. Their path to love was so realistic and it really helped me to connect with both characters.
I definitely want to read more books in this series.

Misha watched as she leaned low over her mare’s neck and gave the horse free rein. He let out a whoop and took off after her, his much larger mount rapidly gaining ground. He had closed the distance to about ten feet when a fox, perhaps roused by the vibration of the horse’s hooves against the ground, dashed out of the bushes. His stallion barely glanced at the disturbance, but Anna’s horse shied away. She tilted to the right, and before she could regain her balance, her mare kicked at the fox, sending her hurtling to the left. His heart lurched, knowing he would not reach her in time to help.

About Ally Broadfield

Ally has worked as a horse trainer, director of marketing and development, freelance proofreader, and a children's librarian, among other things. None of them were as awesome as writing romance novels (though the librarian gig came closest). She lives in Texas and is convinced her house is shrinking, possibly because she shares it with three kids, five dogs, a cat, a rabbit, and assorted reptiles. Oh, and her husband.

Ally likes to curse in Russian because very few people know what she's saying, and spends most of what would be her spare time letting dogs in and out of the house and shuttling kids around. She has many stories in her head looking for an opportunity to escape onto paper. She writes historical romance set in Regency England and Imperial Russia.

She ought to correct his breach of manners, but the delight of hearing him speak to her thus was such that she couldn’t bear to chide him—as long as he didn’t do it in front of others. It took a moment to find her tongue. “Why, that you will conduct yourself with all due propriety in my presence, of course, as any true gentleman would.”A lazy, sensuous grin stretched his mouth. “If you craved a true gentleman’s company you would not be here with me. You would have allowed your stepmother to toss me out on my arse as she doubtless longed to do the very instant I crossed her threshold.” His voice dropped to just above a whisper. “No. I suspect you desire an altogether different sort of man.”

Top Ten Reasons I Love Jane Austen by Ally Broadfield #GuestPost

Ally Broadfield is here today to tell us why she loves Jane Austen:

I have a confession to make. I didn’t read Jane Austen’s books until I was in my early twenties. It was around the time the version of Sense and Sensibility with Kate Winslet and Emma Thompson came out. I read Persuasion first, then the rest of them in quick succession. I could no more chose a favorite Jane Austen book than I could my favorite of my three children, but I can tell you the ten things I love most about her and her books.
1. I reread all of her books every year, and I feel no guilt because she created the Regency romance genre, so reading her books counts as work for me. Right?

2. Not only did she create the genre, but she also invented the romance tropes that are still used today. Pride and Prejudice = enemies to lovers. Persuasion = reunited lovers (the primary trope in One Last Kiss). Emma = friends to lovers.`

3. Reading her books counts as research for me since she obviously never made any mistakes about the Regency period since she lived in it.

4. In the book A Memoir of Jane Austen, written by her nephew, it was revealed that if asked, she would tell family members what some of her characters were doing. For example, she revealed that after the close of Pride and Prejudice, Kitty Bennet eventually married a clergyman near Pemberley, while Mary ended up with a clerk who worked for her Uncle Philips. Though my thoughts usually have to do with the main characters in my books, I’m relieved to know that even Jane Austen liked to think about what her characters were up to after she stopped writing their stories.

5. Though it was very different, and more difficult, for a woman to be published during Jane Austen’s lifetime, it is a comfort for struggling authors to know that it took sixteen years from the time her father first sought publication for First Impressions until the time it was released as Pride and Prejudice.

6. Likewise, Jane Austen wrote the first draft of Sense and Sensibility in the early 1790s, but she spent many years revising it extensively before it was published in 1811.

7. Jane Austen once accepted a marriage proposal from a man six years her junior who was reported to be ill mannered and bad tempered. However, after one night, she called of the wedding, despite the fact that it would have meant security for her family when her father inevitably passed away. Perhaps Elizabeth Bennett was modeled after her after all.

8. Like most writers, Jane Austen loved to read, and though Northanger Abbey poked fun at Gothic novels, she was known to have enjoyed them as well.

9. Jane Austen was thirty-six years old when her first novel was published, and now she’s a household name, so no matter what you might be pursuing, never give up.

10. The Prince Regent “invited” Jane to dedicate the second edition of Emma to him, which in reality was a royal command she could not ignore. So chin up, ladies, even Jane Austen had to put up with vainglorious people every once in a while.
What is your favorite thing about Jane Austen? Which of her books is your favorite?

One Last Kiss is an interesting story that shows a different side of the British culture as far as historical romances go. The hero is Russian while the heroine is British and Russian.
Under threat, Princess Anna is forced to go into hiding in London. When she left Russia, she also left behind her childhood love. Misha was just a soldier when Anna left, but now he’s in London on a secret mission. He has to betray Anna in order to save a few countries but will she understand?
I loved this book! It was light at the beginning and became darker as the story progressed. Both of the main characters were like able. I can’t wait to see what’s up next in this series.

The Wedding Wager is a sweet romance that has a Romeo and Juliet feel. The Katsalos’ and the O’Malley’s both have wedding businesses and are after the same client. The daughter of a congressman is trying to decide where to have her wedding ceremony which leads Erin O’Malley to make a wager with Nick Katsalos.
Erin wants to prove to her dad that she can run the family business. Nick is just trying to help his family out. Will these two always be enemies or can they work out their differences?
I enjoyed this story and thought it was a cute light romance. I loved that there were no games being played and the enemies-to-lovers feel was perfect.
Interview with Barbara DeLeo

It’s wonderful to be at The Crafty Engineer today to answer your questions.

How did you decide which genre(s) you wanted to write?

I started writing when my first set of twins was born (Yep, I ended up with two sets J ) We’d just moved towns and I knew no one, had no family around, so was pretty housebound. I could only write at night then as there always seemed to be one baby up during the day. I’ve always loved to read romance and I found the category length books ideal to read when my kids were tiny. The satisfaction of finishing a story was great. (The fact that most romances didn’t have kids in them was a great break too!)

What do you like to do when you aren’t writing?

If you sat me down with a glass of bubbles with my best girlfriends to watch an awesome rom-com, you’d pretty much have sent me to my nirvana.

What inspired you to write The Wedding Wager?

My husband is Greek and we’ve lived in Greece and Cyprus so I have a huge love for everything about the culture and the people. When I combined that with my love of weddings, the Katsalosfamily from Westchester County were born.

In the first book, The Bouquet List, Mano has returned to Greece to try and get his wife Pia to come home and his daughter Yasmin is in charge. Now it’s older brother Nick’s turn and he’s managed to gamble the family’s whole future.

 What’s up next for you?

Ari’s story, the third in the Westchester series is next. As a PI who specializes in cheating spouses he’s probably not a natural fit as the final hope for the Katsalos family to save the Aegean Palace…

About Barbara DeLeo

Barbara DeLeo’s first book, co-written with her best friend, was a story about beauty queens in space. She was eleven, and the sole, handwritten copy was lost years ago, much to everyone’s relief. It’s some small miracle that she kept the faith and is now living her dream of writing sparkling contemporary romance with unforgettable characters.

After completing degrees in Psychology and English then travelling the world, Barbara married her winemaker hero and had two sets of twins.

She still loves telling stories about finding love in all the wrong places, with not a beauty queen or spaceship in sight.

It’s do or die, one more time.
**The guys—and their women—are in the driver’s seat in Owned, and the ride’s gonna rock. This is the final book in the Lost in Oblivion rockstar series.**

Owned is the first book I have read in the Lost in Oblivion series. While these books should be read in order, I can always pick up a series in the middle and figure out what is going on. However, it typically makes me want to read the rest of the series. Owned is no different. It’s the final book in a 10 book series so I now I must read the 9 books before it.
Owned is a great book. I won’t say it’s a great series ender since I’m not sure what the rest of the series is like but I really enjoyed the book and feel like it has a great ending. I love when authors collaborate and the pair of Cari Quinn and Taryn Elliott is a great combination. The characters are relatable and easy to fall in love with.

DEEP DARK by Laura Griffin
Tracers #10
Releasing May 24th, 2016 from Pocket Books
A gripping new romantic thriller from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Laura Griffin…
The moment detective Reed Novak steps onto the crime scene, he knows the case is going to rock his world. A beautiful young woman murdered at home. No sign of forced entry. No motive. She’s obviously not the killer’s first victim, and Reed’s instincts tell him she won’t be his last. Reed’s first clue comes via a mysterious text that links to a dating profile, but even more intriguing than the clue is the person who sent it.
As a white-hat hacker in the Delphi Center’s cyber investigation unit, Laney Knox sneaks into some of the deepest, darkest corners of the Internet looking for predators. Laney would prefer to stay away from Austin PD’s most recent murder case, but she can’t ignore the chilling similarities between that crime and her own brutal attack years ago.
Laney offers to help the sexy lead detective, but he wants more from her than just a promising tip—Reed wants her trust. Laney resists, but as their relationship deepens she’s tempted to reveal the closely guarded secrets that could make her a key witness…or the killer’s next victim.
Deep Dark is the first book by Laura Griffin I have read. I was blown away by how believable this story is. Her attention to detail is phenomenal. The main purpose of this story is to solve the murder case that is happening with a romance thrown in. The writing is so spectacular that neither of these aspects suffer and it is written in such a way that it flows smoothly.
Laney wants to help rid the world of criminals by searching the internet’s darkest corners to find them and get rid of them. However, she stumbles upon a murder that brings up some dark memories for her. She is determined to help but the lead investigator, Reed, wants her to trust him as well. Laney needs to overcome her past without putting herself in more danger.
I will definitely be reading more Tracers novels in the future.

Flying Blind is an excellent continuation of Flying Away. These books definitely need to be read in order to understand what is going on. Flying Blind picks up right where the first book ends.
In this book, we get a more in-depth look at the lives of the flies and how they act. Iolani gets into more trouble in this book as is to be expected. I believe Flying Blind is just as heart-wrenching as the first book if not more. The addition of a few new characters made this book so much more enjoyable.
I feel like this review is a little all over the place but the book is the same way so I think it’s fitting. This series is definitely a weird one but I enjoy it immensely.

About Caroline A. Gill

Unusual stories attract me, ones in which the reader cannot easily see the ending or most of the journey. Visiting Rome during university studies, I found a simple truth sitting on buses, traveling all over the ancient city: the joy is in the Journey, in the people I meet, not in the destination. So, I write for you. I write for sanity. I write for chocolate and really good pizza.

Being a twenty-one-year-old screw-up has its perks: Sleepwalk through class. Drink all day. Nail anything that walks.

Easy f#*$ing peasy.

In another lifetime, I was the fastest guy at Fielding College. I broke more track records than anyone on the West Coast. But since my world fell apart last year, all I want is to be left the hell alone.

Ariel Hastings isn’t just a wrench in that plan—she’s a bomb. The quiet girl with secrets shows up out of nowhere and suddenly our fates are tied together. She wants to run with me, learn from me, even live with me.

Now we’re spending way too much time together and it’s threatening to bring back the old Chase Owens. I crave something she won’t give me and I sure as hell can’t ask for.

Because we’ve both got pasts that won’t let go. Even if I can survive hers, we can’t outrun mine.

“What’s this?” Chase asks when I hand him one of the coffee cups.

“Peace offering. Careful, it’s hot. I wasn’t sure what you wanted in it, so I left it…”

My voice trails off as he takes both cups and tips them over the sink. I snatch my cup back but it’s too late.

“There are three sips in here! Just because you don’t like coffee doesn’t mean you have to be a…a…total degenerate!”

“For the record, I like it as much as the next guy but too much tanks your performance.”

He grins like he’s enjoying this.

“Are you going to take three quarters of my donut too?” I pull it from the bag and wave it in front of him. I try to jerk it away when Chase grabs for it, but he’s faster.

“Nope.” He drops the pastry in the trash before I can blink.

My mouth falls open in disbelief. For a second I stand there, stunned by his audacity. “What is this, communist Russia?”

Chase hands me a banana from the counter.

“I’m Irish.”

I stand over the garbage. The donut is drenched in whatever green substance occupied the bag first, rendering my beloved breakfast unsalvageable.

“I thought you wanted this, Hastings.” His eyes gleam wickedly.

“Chase Owens,” I whisper, my voice nearly shaking, “you are the devil.”

“Fuck, I love it when you talk dirty. Now less lip, more running, princess.” He shoves me toward the door.

I love reading and writing about sassy, sexy, smart women and the guys who fall hard for them. Schooled is the introduction to my Travesty series about ambitious girls who chase their dreams of a fashion label from California to New York and back again.

My main household expenditures include books, coffee and chocolate, not necessarily in that order. Coffee = life (and I’ll defend it accordingly). I have two business degrees, neither of which I’ve leveraged into a fashion label.

Home is Canada plus occasional sunny winter escapes. Come find me on the tennis court, at the beach, on the web at or on twitter @piperjlawson
