“Touch gloves,” I command. They do as they’re told before stepping back from each other. “And. Fight.”

Jep doesn’t waste any time. He goes for the easy takedown, aiming at Gabbi’s waist and trying to wrestle her to the ground. It’s a good move, one that I don’t expect her to be able to counteract. He easily outweighs her—almost by double, I’d guess.

What I didn’t count on, and neither did Jep by the looks of things, is Gabbi swinging onto his back and locking her right arm under his chin. Using her left arm for leverage and locking her legs tight around his waist, she pulls tight using a rear-naked choke that’s going to have him tapping out swiftly if he can’t find a way out of it.

He swings around wildly in an attempt to dislodge her. It’s ineffectual. Gabbi clings to him like a backpack. I know what I would do in this situation but I’m not sure if Jep has the killer instinct needed to do it to a girl. If I was him, I’d throw myself on my back and use my superior weight against her. There’s little chance of her maintaining her chokehold while she deals with the weight of a fully-grown man crushing her.

“Yes.” Nate punches the air. “Choke him out, ninja girl.”

A feral growl can be heard coming from his best-friend in response to his cheering. Nate smiles at me when I glance his way, smug-satisfaction evident. Gabbi must sink her hooks in deeper because Jep’s face starts to change color. With pure desperation showing in his expression, he throws himself on his back, trapping Gabbi between his body and the canvas.

I expect her to let go of him so she can tap out. The crazy girl doesn’t; instead she absorbs the impact without making a sound and sustains her tight hold. My pulse pounds in my ears as my desperation for Jep to win increases. All hope of succeeding at this stupid game I’m playing leaves me, when I witness Jep’s hand frantically tapping on the arm Gabbi has locked under his chin seconds before his eye’s roll back in his head. He succumbs to his lack of air supply and loses consciousness.

“Time. Time.” I call, rushing forward to roll Jep’s unconscious form off Gabbi. Nate and two other members jump the ropes and make their way into the ring to assist me. They deal with Jep, rousing him and making him talk to them once he’s come to, while I grab Gabbi’s hands and pull her back on her feet.

She’s unhurt; a sheen of sweat that covers her smooth skin and a rapidly rising and falling chest the only outward signs that she’s just exerted herself. Well that, and the giant shit-eating grin that’s on her face.

“I won,” she breathes the words as if she can’t quite believe them herself.

I know I can’t. This isn’t how this was supposed to go down.

“So when do we start, Coach?”

The logical part of my brain wants to scream “never”, while the part that’s strangely turned on from watching this girl use a technique I’ve used on my opponents many times to subdue a man twice her size, is yelling at me to tell her “right fucking now” so I can take her in the locker room and bend her over in the shower, making my fantasy from the other night a reality.

Letting go of her hands in an attempt to resist the overwhelming urge I’m having to pull her closer, I take a step away from her.

My displeasure is evident on my face and in my voice when I answer her.

“Tomorrow. We’ll start tomorrow.”

DAZED BULLET by Serena Kearney
The Scarred Bullet Series #1
Releasing July 26th, 2016

 I have a temper. I’m angry. That’s a given.
How I take it out? At my job in the boxing room of our gym. I’ve spent over a year trying to harness it, but I wasn’t by myself.
Almost every night, like clockwork, he’s there on one side and I’m at the other. He is big, rugged, but handsome.
He’s also scary. Silent. Deadly.
When I hear the name Bullet, you would think I would have gone running in the other direction.
I didn’t. I should.
He has a past.
He has secrets. Danger. Pain. Sorrow.
Little did I know that it would just bring us closer together.

Daze has a lot of rage built up left over from all the times her mother beat her brother. She wasn’t able to do anything about it until her brother turned 18 and it has bothered her since the day she found out. To control some of this rage, she takes it out in a boxing gym. There she meets Bullet. He has a rough past and she’s about to be put in the middle of it.
I loved the fast pace of this book. It was action packed and the romance was hot! I really enjoyed it and look forward to more in this series and from this author.

When he wins a sexy bet, billionaire Linc Blair can’t wait to get Lauren Neill naked. He’s never gone for her type in the past, and he’s pretty certain it has more to do with her buttoned-up hotness than the nagging sense that something is missing from his life. But when he gets a glimpse of the vulnerable woman beneath the conservative, yet oh-so-sexy clothes, it’s a game changer.
Lauren can’t believe she’s spending a few days with one of sexiest, and most annoying men she’s ever met. But she can’t deny the chemistry between them, and for once in her life she’s letting down her guard so she can explore a different side of herself. The side only Linc brings out in her.
Taking it slow, he unleashes her sexuality and it quickly occurs to him that what started out as a bet for him has become something more. With their weekend nearly over, and her ex showing interest in this new confident version of Lauren, Linc will have to risk it all if he wants to win the game of love.

Learning Curves is part of the new Scorched line from Entangled Publishing. I’ve been looking forward to reading this since it was announced. It’s a short book that can easily be read in a couple of hours.
Lauren can’t deny her attraction to Linc but she thinks he’s a player so she stays away. Linc wants Lauren so bad he can barely stand to be in the same room as her without wanting to rip her clothes off. He decides to make a bet with her where the winner gets the loser for the weekend. Of course he wins.
Lauren is extremely nervous because her ex told her she was boring in the bedroom. She doesn’t realize that it was because he didn’t please her. Now she is going to spend the weekend with Linc and be able to explore her sexuality.
This is a short read and it’s obvious from how rushed parts of the story are. I enjoyed it anyways. The only thing that really bothered me was the author’s overuse of the word “sex” to describe the heroine’s lady bits. I really don’t like that word used as such so it may not bother anyone else. If you’re looking for a short erotic read, I would recommend Learning Curves.

Format: eBook

How can you imagine forever with someone who's leaving everything behind?
Callahan, a former army sniper, wants to make an escape from his past and everything he experienced at war, but most of all, just not feel. Feeling leads to pain and he’s suffered enough. When he inherits a house on South Carolina’s Kiawah Island, he packs his bags, lured by the peace and seclusion he thinks it will bring. But, Callahan never counted on meeting anyone like Trinity . . .
Trinity has always been the cute, and funny one, who most guys overlook in pursuit of her "hot" friends. She became used to being everyone’s pal, until the day the young man she was attracted to, was drawn to her in return. He became her first great love, and first crushing heartbreak when she found him in bed with one of her closest friends.
To move forward, and to carry out her commitment to helping those in need, Trinity enlists in the Peace Corps, but not before returning to Kiawah for one last memorable summer. She just never imagined it would be so unforgettable.
Callahan doesn’t want to get close to anyone—let alone Trinity. He finds her perkiness insufferable and her attempts to entice a smile distracting. After all, he’s in Kiawah to leave all feelings behind. But when it comes to Trinity, who feels everything, it's hard not to feel something.
Neither expected to fall in love. And no one could have predicted how inseverable they’d become.

Cecy Robson knows how to write great romance. Inseverable is a fantastic example of this. She also knows how to write great characters.
Trinity is so perky and loves helping people. She is probably one of my all time favorite heroines. The way she is determined to make Callahan smile the first time they meet made me instantly want to be her best friend. She didn’t care if he didn’t want to talk to her or not. She also was quick to pick up on the fact that he has suffered terrible loss and has dead eyes. Most people either wouldn’t have cared or wouldn’t have paid that much attention.
Callahan served 8 years as an Army sniper and saw things most people couldn’t imagine. All he wants to do is not feel anything but Trinity won’t let that happen. The last thing he expected was to meet a girl like her. He also doesn’t count on the fact that she has joined the Peace Corps. I loved watching their relationship blossom.

A sweet & spicy standalone romance from USA Today bestselling author Ember Casey.

Most girls dream of marrying a billionaire.
Me? I'd rather make fun of one. Especially if the billionaire in question is Alexander Grant.
Excuse me--Xander Grant. That's right--the mega-hot entrepreneur who seems to top every magazine's "Rich Eligible Bachelors" list these days.
To me, he'll always be Alex--my childhood best friend. The guy who joined me on all sorts of wild teenage misadventures. The only person in our small town who understood me.
It's been four years since I've seen Alex. But suddenly he's back in our town at the exact same time my life is imploding around me.
We've both changed so much--I mean, the guy used to live in ripped jeans, and now he wears nothing but designer suits--but when I need it most, he offers me exactly the escape I need. A chance to run away from my life, if only for a few days.
I only hope my heart is prepared.

Don't miss the other FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS standalone romances:
The Billionaire's Ballet by Deanna RoyYours and Mine by Lacey SilksAlways You by Rachel SchurigThe Rock Star's Secret Baby by Blair BabylonGoing for Broke by Gretchen GalwayNext to You by Daisy Prescott

Mae and Alex have been best friends for years but it’s been four years since they last saw each other. Alex has become a billionaire while Mae is still in their home town with no plans to leave anytime soon. Mae has just broken up with her cheating fiancee and hasn’t even told anyone. Alex gives her a chance to escape the drama of small town breakups by asking her to come to New York with him. Of course, a romance blooms between them.
I absolutely love The Billionaire Escape Plan. It is my favorite book of the year so far. I love how Mae speaks her mind and she constantly thinks of Alex as two different people, Alex- her best friend and Xander- the billionaire play boy. When she finally lets herself feel the feelings she is having, it is magical. I would highly recommend this book!

Bad Boys After Dark: Mick by Melissa Foster #BlogTour #Review

 Indulge your inner vixen…
Bad Boys After Dark #1
Releasing June 22nd, 2016 from World Literary Press

Indulge your inner vixen…
Meet the Bad Boys… Four sinfully sexy, fiercely loyal, uber alpha brothers about to fall head over heels for their leading ladies. If dirty talk, cursing, or raw, passionate sex turns you off, the After Dark books are not for you, because everything’s naughtier after dark.
Amanda Jenner is done being a boring-man magnet and has finally taken control of her love life. As any smart paralegal would, she’s researched the hell out of how to seduce a man. She’s waxed, primped, and ready to put her newfound skills into action—and a masquerade bar crawl is the perfect venue for her solo coming-out party.
Entertainment attorney Mick Bad lives by two hard and fast rules. He never mixes business with pleasure, and he doesn’t do relationships, which makes the anonymity of a masquerade bar crawl the perfect place for a onetime hookup.
Amanda thinks she’s hit the jackpot when she bags a tall, dark, and sinfully delicious masked man—until she discovers the man she’s made out with is her off-limits boss. Mick’s already crossed a line he can never uncross, and one taste of sweet and sexy Amanda has only whet his appetite. When Mick offers to give Amanda a lesson in seduction—no strings, no regrets, and for goodness’ sake, come Monday, no quitting—the tables turn, and Mick’s totally unprepared for the lessons this sweet temptress provides.
Amazon | B & N Google Play | iTunes | Kobo
I love Melissa Foster’s writing so when I learned that she was writing a series that was going to be a lot steamier, I got super excited. Bad Boys After Dark: Mick was way hotter than I expected and I loved it! I love the boss/employee relationship trope and this did not disappoint. There’s just something about a forbidden romance that I love.
Amanda has decided that she wants to explore her sexuality more and goes to a masquerade bar crawl. Since everyone will be wearing masks, it will be the perfect time to try out her new ideas on seducing a man. She thinks she’s hit the jackpot until she realizes the guy she’s been making out with is her boss.
Mick knows Amanda is off-limits since she’s his employee. But that doesn’t make him want her any less now that he’s had a taste of her. So he makes her an offer to teach her how to seduce a guy- no strings attached. We all know where this is going.
I thought Melissa Foster wrote a great story and I can’t wait to read the rest of this series.

Stranger in My House is a page turner filled with suspense. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and didn’t want to put it down.

Kirby is a cop who has a half-sister that could pass for her twin. Her half-sister, Frankie, also happens to be a heiress who thinks someone is trying to kill her. Kirby decides to assume Frankie’s identity to find out who exactly is out to get her. Then Kirby meets Seth who apparently had a fling with Frankie. He doesn’t realize who he thinks is Frankie is actually Kirby. He just thinks Frankie is acting really weird.

There are a lot of questions that are asked and answered in this book. I felt like it was a great story and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes romantic suspense.

Let’s start with the fun stuff. I love small towns, mysteries, quiet men, laughter, old-fashioned spaghetti dinners. I love boots and shopping and jokes and Hershey’s dark chocolate and white wine. I love lots of things. But my first love is reading.

I love to read. Just about anything, but it has to be well-written. I go through periods where I am into historical novels or romance or mystery or history or biography. I never know when my desires will suddenly change.

Now for the writer-ish official stuff: Mari Manning is the author of several contemporary romances and three romantic suspense novels set in Texas Hill Country. Stranger At My Door is the first in her A Murder in Teas series. The second, Stranger in My House, will be released by Entangled on June 13. The third book in the series is Stranger in My Bed. Currently Mari is working on a set of cozy mysteries.

A Driven to Love Story
Released June 13th, 2016 by Entangled Lovestruck
Aidan Ross might be an engineering genius, but people skills? Not this soldier’s forte. Thankfully, a trusted friend is accompanying him to a make-or-break tradeshow…but then a bubbly redhead hops into his truck, claiming to be his new road trip buddy. She’s a gorgeous distraction he can’t afford. Or ignore.
Delaney Harper comes from a family of engineers—male engineers. With several impressive projects under her belt, she’s on a mission to prove she can hang with the big boys, too. But cracking the sexy, closed-off CEO is tougher than she expects…and hotter than she could have imagined.
With the tempting woman disrupting his carefully planned schedule, Aidan can’t focus on the road, much less their upcoming presentation. The future of his company is riding on this trip, and if they’re to land a huge account, he has to keep his head—and his heart—in the game…
Amazon | B&N | Kobo | iTunes
A romance involving two engineers… you know it peaked my interest. The field of engineering is definitely male dominated so any female engineer is going to be a strong character. She has to be in order to make it in this field. I know from personal experience the difficulties that are faced and I thought Melia Alexander did an excellent job portraying this.
Delaney is a strong heroine who jumps at the chance to show her boss what she is capable of. Aidan is the founder and CEO of the company she works for and like most engineers, his people skills are rather lacking. Delaney is glad to step in and help him out with a deal that he needs to make. Aidan just needs to remember to not drool over his hot employee in the process.
Delaney and Aidan had such great chemistry. It was a delight to read their story. I look forward to more from Ms. Alexander.

Melia Alexander is the author of sassy, sexy, fun contemporary romances, but is also fortunate to spend her week days at The Male Observation Lab (a.k.a. her job at a construction company) where she gets to observe guys in their natural habitat. Though they often behave like typical alpha males, in many instances she’s seen through their personas to the heart of who they really are – the heroes of their own stories. A native of Guam, Melia traded in warm, tropical breezes for the rainy Pacific Northwest. She’s an avid reader who also loves romantic comedies – preferably with a glass of CabSauv and a box of chocolates nearby. In her free time, she’s busy conquering her CrossFit fears: ring dips, muscle snatches, and the dreaded 800 meter run. Her family appreciates her attempts at cooking and cleaning, although she spends it mostly daydreaming about her characters, which sometimes results in a burnt meal and a half-cleaned house.
