Eye Candy by Jessica Lemmon #BlogTour #Review

Don’t trust lust at first sight.

Real Love #1
Jessica Lemmon
Releasing July 25th, 2017
Don’t trust lust at first sight. One woman chooses reality over fantasy in this friends-to-lovers romance.

As an adult woman—and the vice president of a marketing firm—I shouldn’t be waiting by my office window to ogle the mystery man who jogs by every morning at 11:45. Sure, he’s a gorgeous, perfect specimen of the human race, but I can’t bring myself to hit on a total stranger. However, my best friend–slash–colleague Vince Carson thinks I should do more than talk to the guy. In fact, he’s borderline obsessive about “getting me laid.” (His words.) But the more time we spend together, the more it’s clear: The one I’m falling for is Vince.
Vince: Jackie Butler’s got it bad for some pompous, over-pumped A-hole who struts his stuff past her window. That doesn’t bother me. I know she deserves nice things. What does bother me is that she friend-zoned me big-time last year, so I can’t ask her out myself. But what if I set her up with Mr. Steroids? Then, when he breaks her heart, I can swoop in and save her like the nice guy I am. Everything’s going according to plan . . . until we share a ridiculously epic kiss. And suddenly anything is possible.

Eye Candy is the first book in the brand new Real Love series by Jessica Lemmon. This a friends-to-lovers story about two friends who helped each other through their divorces.
Jackie has been divorced three years but hasn’t been able to bring herself to date after her ex cheated on her. Every morning she watches a gorgeous guy jog by her window and she has no idea how to approach him but she wants to. Her best friend and co-vice president, Vince, decides to help her. He has an ulterior motive though. He plans to wait until this guy breaks her heart so that he can swoop in and make her see that she belongs with him. Things back fire when they share an intense kiss but it may be just what was needed.
I enjoyed this book and it’s take on the friends-to-lovers trope. This is a trope that is slightly overdone but this story was believable and the characters were well developed. I liked Jackie and how she was willing to finally put herself back out there. It’s hard when you have been cheated on and I’m glad she didn’t rush back out into the dating world before she was ready. Jessica Lemmon did a great job with these characters in that both of them were divorcees who were left but neither of them played the victim. Jackie didn’t date for awhile but she never came across as the “woe is me” type.  I also liked that Vince wasn’t the type of businessman who was all about his job. That was really refreshing. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!

June was not a great month. I had a wreck that totaled my car and I was banged up and sore for almost a week. I had to deal with insurance and rental companies for a few weeks but I was finally able to get a new car. I was really stressed out so I read a lot more which was nice.

Where I Need to Be by Jamie Hollins #BlogTour #Review

How can their relationship survive when it’s built on half-truths?

McKenna Series #3
Jamie Hollins
Releasing July 18, 2017

When heroin stole James Foley’s wife and destroyed his marriage, he poured all his energy into raising his young son and running his auto garage. There’s no room in his life for anything else until Megan McKenna walks into his shop. He finds it impossible to resist the sexy school teacher.
After an ugly divorce, Megan lost her home, her job, and a big chunk of her self-respect. With her posh lifestyle now a memory, she starts over by
indulging in an unexpected fling with a hard-bodied mechanic.
What begins as something casual turns into something meaningful. But how can their relationship survive when it’s built on half-truths?
James and Megan soon discover that being honest with themselves is just as important as being honest with each other. Only then will their relationship fire on all cylinders.

James wants nothing more than to raise his son and run his auto repair shop. He isn’t interested in love after his ex-wife had unrecognized postpartum depression that led to a heroin addiction. He tried to help her but after many failed attempts he took their son and left when he came to the realization that she would always pick the drug.
Megan thought she had it all. She was living a life of luxury until she found her husband of 7 years cheating on her. She leaves him and ends up with no job, no home, and no car. Falling back on her teaching degree, she ends up with a roommate and a car that is basically a piece of junk.
Megan ends up at James auto shop and he instantly thinks she was like every other privileged customer since she is a former customer of his. She proves him wrong though and the two of them are able to learn from their past mistakes to have a good relationship.
This is the first book by Jamie Hollins that I have read and I really enjoyed it. Both Megan and James had experienced the pain of a marriage ending and instead of it making them bitter, they used the experience to learn how a relationship is supposed to work. They both were a little hesitant of course but I enjoyed watching their relationship blossom.

Ready to Run by Lauren Layne #ExcerptReveal

A reality TV producer falling for her would-be star:
a Montana heartthrob who wants nothing to do with the show.

I Do, I Don’t #1
Lauren Layne
Releasing Aug 22, 2017

The Bachelor meets The Runaway Bride in this addictive romance novel about a reality TV producer falling for her would-be star: a Montana heartthrob who wants nothing to do with the show.

Jordan Carpenter thinks she’s finally found the perfect candidate for Jilted, a new dating show about runaway grooms: Luke Elliott, a playboy firefighter who’s left not one but three brides at the altar. The only problem? Luke refuses to answer Jordan’s emails or return her calls. Which is how she ends up on a flight to Montana to recruit him in person. It’s not Manhattan but at least the locals in Lucky Hollow seem friendly . . . except for Luke, who’s more intense—and way hotter—than the slick womanizer Jordan expected.

Eager to put the past behind him, Luke has zero intention of following this gorgeous, fast-talking city girl back to New York. But before he can send her packing, Jordan’s everywhere: at his favorite bar, the county fair, even his exes’ book club. Annoyingly, everyone in Lucky Hollow seems to like her—and deep down, she’s starting to grow on him too. But the more he fights her constant pestering, the more Luke finds himself wishing that Jordan would kick off her high heels and make herself comfortable in his arms.

Damn. Charlie hadn’t been lying about the hot blonde.
The woman walking straight toward him was all tight jeans, high heels, and confi-dence. And hot. Very, very hot.
Charlie muttered something admiring under his breath, and Luke’s gaze flicked to the man beside the woman. Tried to place him. Couldn’t.
Not too many guys around here who wore light-purple shirts and white pants with the same easy comfort that Lucky Hollow residents wore jeans and flannel.
No doubt about it—neither was from around here. Not by a long shot.
The man was a half step behind the woman, and Luke assessed that the woman was calling the shots.
His eyes narrowed as he realized that she hadn’t once wavered in her approach.
She knew what she was after:
She got closer and Luke saw that the face matched the body. Wide blue eyes, full lips, sassy shoulder-length blond hair that was just tousled enough to make a man wonder how it had gotten that way—to want to be the one to muss it.
Her gaze flicked over him, and Charlie whistled and muttered under his breath. “She just checked you out, man.”
She had indeed, but Luke was far from flattered. It hadn’t been the assessment of a woman checking out a man so much as a predator evaluating its prey.
As though she was evaluating him for . . . something.
Blondie stopped in front of him, and the second her blue eyes locked on his, Luke felt a little jolt of awareness and was irrationally annoyed. It had been a long time since he’d been quite so aware of a woman.
Once, he’d enjoyed the feeling—sexual chemistry was almost the perfect combination of pain and pleasure. A subtle punch in the gut that you wanted to experience again and again.
These days, though, he was having a hard time getting past the pain part. The shitty parts had outweighed the good parts just one time too many. Now he mostly settled for casual hookups with a divorcée a few towns over who was even less interested in com-mitment than Luke was.
He had zero use for attraction to a pretty, bold woman in high heels.
Luke noticed that for a sheer moment she had a slightly off-balance look, as though she too had felt the annoying zip of arousal when their eyes met, but she recovered quick-ly.
Pasting a sunny, generic smile on her face, she stuck out her right hand. “Luke Elliott. I’m Jordan Carpenter. This is my colleague, Simon Nash.”
Good manners had him setting down his equipment and extending his own right hand toward hers even as his brain caught on her name. Familiar, and . . .
Shit. Shit!
He managed to stop from jerking his hand back, but just barely. Instead, he gritted his teeth, gave her hand a perfunctory shake, and then fixed her with a glare. “You’re wasting your time, Ms. Carpenter. And mine.”
Blue eyes narrowed. “Aha. So you did get my emails.”
Those. The voicemails. The letters.
“Sure,” he said with a nod, shoving his hands in his pockets. “Just like I suspect you got the message that I didn’t want to be a part of your show.”
Charlie looked from the woman to Luke and back again. “Show?”
Ryan ambled over, his shit-eating grin telling Luke that this damn woman had already spilled the beans on why she was here. “Luke’s gonna be a national heartthrob.”
“International,” said the blond guy in the purple shirt.
Jordan Carpenter didn’t look at her companion, but all three firefighters did.
The other man gave the sort of easy smile that probably had him making friends easily. Luke didn’t want a new friend.
Especially not one who wanted to use his shitty romantic past for the sake of TV ratings.

#MomFail Anthology #Review

Cover Design: MadHat Books

Release Date: July 25, 2017

Everyone just stop for one bleeping minute so we can all get real with each other. Being a mom is some tough $#!†. You’re constantly wearing questionable substances that make you ask, “is this chocolate or … oh, crap …” and your purse is merely a receptacle for three-week-old snacks and broken crayons.

Let’s be honest … even when we’re doing this “mom” thing right, we’re somehow doing it completely wrong.

Pardon us while we dust off our collective Mother of the Year trophy and proudly present you with an epic anthology of #MOMFAILS.

*Stories inspired by real life (unless you’re a cop, then it’s all complete fiction). Names and situations have been changed to protect the guilty (and by guilty, we mean the moms). Because motherhood is a battlefield and we’re all just trying to survive by any means necessary.

Featuring this amazing lineup: Alissa York, A.M. Willard, BL Berry, Carina Adams, Claudia Burgoa, Crystal Burnette, Dylan Allen, Faith Andrews, Gia Riley, J.A. DeRouen, Kate Anslinger, Leddy Harper, LK Collins, LL Collins, Marie James, Piper Rayne, Riann C. Miller, Shari J. Ryan, Stephanie Rose, Stephie Walls, SM West, TL Swan, Teresa Michaels, and foreword written by: Nicole Kane Knepper.

I’ll be honest I only wanted to read this anthology because of Piper Rayne’s addition Sex Weeks which is about Charlie and Garrett from Sexy Beast. I wasn’t sure if I want to read any of the other stories since there were only a couple of other authors that I was familiar with. However, this collection of stories is so good. If you’re a mom, want to be a mom, or just want to laugh, then #MomFail is for you! As a mother to an 18 month old, I can totally relate to having #MomFail moments and it’s refreshing to see that I’m not the only one. These stories are pretty hilarious and I’m so glad I decided to read all of them!

A horse race in trousers on Rotten Row. Visiting a gaming hall in a dress that would make her mother faint. Sneaking an invitation to a masquerade ball attended by only the wickedest, most debauched members of society…
None of these things are scaring off bookish but strong-willed Amelia Bishop’s stuffy, egotistical fiancé.
The only thing left is to entice childhood friend Nicholas Wakefield into a truly engagement-ending scandal. The Wakefields are the height of propriety, and Nicholas’s parents have made it clear a wife from the neighboring Bishop family would be unacceptable…
But Nicholas would give up his family and his fortune if Amelia would ever see him as more than just a childhood friend. He’ll go along with her scheme, even if it means ruining them both, because he’s got a plan that will change her mind about him being merely the boy next door.

Amelia’s family have been outcasts in society since her older sister Julia was born with a disability. That didn’t stop Nicholas, the second son of Lord and Lady Wakefield, from becoming friends with both sisters. Nick and Amelia have always liked each other but were both too afraid to admit it. Now Nick has been summoned home after two years abroad to find his father losing his mind and Amelia engaged to Embry. Amelia thinks Nick could never be attracted to her and is surprised when just being near him gives her tingles. She doesn’t feel that way when she is with her fiance. Speaking of Embry, he is older and was previously engaged to the woman he loved but it ended when she tragically died. He is trying to make Amelia fit the image of his beloved and will go to any means to marry her including blackmail. Amelia tries to call off the engagement after Embry insults her sister but he will not have it. What follows is hilarity at its finest with several attempts at causing a scandal to become single again. Of course Amelia will need help from her sister, Nick, and Nick’s friends and we also get introduced to Jasper, the heir to the Duke of Albemarle, who is quite scandalous himself.
I really loved this cast of characters except for Embry and Lady Bishop but seeing as one is the villain it’s not surprising. I felt that Amelia went through a lot during her engagement and I loved when she finally put her foot down and stopped letting her family tell her what to do. Nick was quite swoon-worthy but could be a real jerk at times. He was dealing with a lot as well though and did eventually fix his wrongs. Julia was so fascinating. She didn’t let anyone pity her and if they tried she made sure they saw the error of their ways. I cannot wait for her story. I loved Jas and hope to see more of him in the next book.

#24in48 Readathon: Updates

I decided to try the #24in48 Readathon this go around. I don’t know if I’ll be able to read a full 24 hours but I’m going to try. I have several books I want to read and I would love to get a few of these knocked off my list this weekend. Here are my options:

  • The Importance of Being Scandalous by Kimberly Bell
  • A Dance with Seduction by Alyssa Alexander
  • Ethan’s Daughter by Rachel Brimble
  • Emma in the Night by Wendy Walker
  • Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Intro Survey

1. Where in the world are you reading from this weekend?

Im in Mississippi, USA.

2.Have you done the 24in48 readathon before?

Nope. This is my first time and I’m excited!

3. Where did you hear about the readathon, if it is your first?

Michelle from Because Reading mentioned it in a post on Facebook.

4. What book are you most excited about reading this weekend?

That’s a tough one. I’d probably have to say Emma in the Night by Wendy Walker. The blurb makes it sound so good and I can’t wait to see what happens!

5. Tell us something about yourself.

I’m married to an amazing man and we have a beautiful daughter who keeps us super entertained. I work as a chemical engineer and of course own this blog. I love to escape into new worlds so every chance I get my nose is stuck in a book.

6. Remind us where to find you online this weekend.

You can find me here on the blog, on Twitter, and Instagram. I’m going tomix it up a little since Twitter and Instagram are more accessible when I’m not at home.

Hourly Updates

Hours 1-8 I was either asleep or trying  to sleep lol

Hours 9-10 I read part of The Importance of Being Scandalous by Kimberly Bell and played with my daughter.

Hours 11-13 I took a break from reading to spend time with my family and am now getting ready to get back to reading for another hour or so.

Hours 14-48 I got bad about updating. I think I only read a total of 6 hours. Which with a 1 year old that isn’t bad. I’m happy because I read 1 book and started on another.

Hour 12 Challenge

I chose to go with places I would road trip to:

1. I would of course start my road trip at Hogwarts because why not.

2. I would want to visit Wardham from Zoe Yorks Wardham series because it seems pretty and fun.

3. I want to go to Middle Earth!
