Mirror mirror, hear my call…
In the Fire world, seventeen-year-old Leah is the illegitimate daughter of one of the realm's most powerful lords. She's hot-blooded—able to communicate with the tempestuous volcano gods that either bless a civilization or destroy it. But then Leah discovers she's a Caller, gifted with the unique—and dangerous—ability to “call” her Otherselves in mirror worlds. And her father will do anything to use her powers for his own purposes.
In the Water world, Holly nearly drowns when she sees—and interacts with—Leah, a mirror image of herself. She’s rescued by Ryan, a boy from school with a secret he’d die to protect. Little do they know, his Otherself is the son of a powerful volcano god at war in the Fire world…and he’s about to fall.
As Leah and Holly's lives intersect, the Fire and Water worlds descend into darkness. The only way to protect the mirror worlds is to break every rule they've ever known. If they don’t, the evil seeping through the mirrors will destroy everything—and everyone—they love…

Review
Through Fire & Sea involves parallel universes and otherselves. There are 4 elemental worlds and 1 true world. In each world everyone has an otherself but most people don’t know it. Leah is one of the people that knows about the elemental worlds and her otherselves. She is the unrecognized daughter of a Duke and she has spent her entire life trying to get his attention. When she finally gets to speak with him, he proves why her mother didn’t want him near her. The Dukes are summoning Quetrah to handle a dragon and her price is their daughters. He forces Leah to take the place of his legal daughter or he will kill her mother. Leah doesn’t want to go but she has no choice.
While away, Leah discovers she is a Caller which means she can call her otherselves. She meets Holly who she can talk to through water. Holly nearly drowns the first time she sees Leah and is rescued by a merman named Ryan who tries to convince Holly not to tell anyone of his rescue. Unbeknownst to all of them, Ryan’s otherself in the fire world is Gideon who happens to be Leah’s soulmate. Gideon is cursed and Leah will do anything to help me. She accidentally releases someone into the water world who is after Ryan. If Ryan dies, then so will Gideon.
This story is so complex and unique. I had a little difficulty keeping up with everything. I think I need a reference book just to tell me the back history of all the worlds and what not so that maybe I can keep it straight. The characters are each unique which is nice to see considering some of them are otherselves of the same person. I would love to see more of the other worlds and look forward to reading the other books in the series.
