So far this winter has been the weirdest we have seen in Mississippi in a while. Since the prompt for this month’s Blog All About It challenge is winter, I thought I would share what winter has been like the past couple of weeks.
Typically here in Mississippi, we don’t get a lot of snow. We normally get ice and when we do get anything it isn’t much and it is normally in March right before spring actually starts. When we do get anything, everyone freaks out and runs to the store for bread and water and it’s chaotic to say the least. Oh and everything pretty much shuts down since no one knows how to drive on a normal day let alone on an icy one.
On January 12th, we got a lot of ice that caused the roads to be extremely hazardous so naturally everyone freaked out. I didn’t leave my house that day. I didn’t want to chance wrecking even though I can drive pretty well in those conditions thanks to my dad teaching me how to properly drive on ice. This was the view from my front porch.
The following Tuesday we got hit again but this time it was 3 inches of snow. The roads were again pretty bad because part of them had never unfrozen and then everyone driving on them packed the snow down and caused ice. I took my daughter over to my parent’s house that day and let her play in the snow since we don’t have a yard.
To say she loved it would probably be an understatement. I had a hard time getting her to come back in even though she was obviously pretty cold. This is the first time in a while that we’ve had enough snow to play in and it stuck around for a couple of days since the temp. didn’t get above freezing.
I used to think that I hated winter and although I hate being cold, I rather enjoyed actually getting snow and going outside to play in it. I did not like the ice though. I ended up falling one morning on my way to the car and banged up my knee pretty good.
Do you like winter? How has yours been so far?
