Monthly Wrap-up: May 2017

May was a very stressful month and I used reading to help relieve that stress. I got married on May 27th and the wedding couldn’t have been any more perfect. Everything didn’t go quite as planned but the weather was nice and the ceremony was exactly what I had hoped for. My daughter didn’t want to walk down the aisle but when she saw her dad standing at the other end waiting for her she ran to him and that made it so much better.

When a Rake Falls by Sally Orr #Review

When a Rake Falls by Sally Orr #ReviewWhen a Rake Falls by Sally Orr
Published by Sourcebooks Casablanca on April 7th 2015
Genres: Historical, Romance
Pages: 320
Format: eBook

To win a race to Paris, dashing Lord Boyce Parker hires a balloon. He expects to be crowned the victor and become famous for his courage and intelligence. Only then can he regain his father’s respect from the scandal of publishing the naughty book The Rake’s Handbook: Including Field Guide.
Bluestocking Miss Eve Mountfloy makes a bargain with the handsome Pink of the Ton. She’ll fly the balloon during the dangerous crossing to France, if he lets her finish her scientific experiments to predict violent storms and thereby save lives.
Eve proceeds with her studies, but the results are not what she expected. Chafing to keep warm creates unusual sensations everywhere. Then when Lord Parker asks if she is curious about the heat generated by a kiss, well, she is curious. It seems Lord Parker is performing experiments of his own that will forever change Eve’s perception of the word "results."

When a Rake Falls is the first book by Sally Orr I have read. I must say that I wasn’t all that impressed. I liked Boyce and Eve but this story was lacking continuity. There were times where it was really hard to follow what was happening and it got confusing. There is a lot of scientific talk in the middle of the story that in my opinion takes away from the story. I’m all for science and talking about science but it didn’t help this book out. I love that Eve is a female scientist and that Boyce helped her with her experiments. However, I think there was too much detail focused on those and not enough elsewhere. I got really bored halfway through and probably should have just given up but I don’t like not finishing a book.

Carson by Melissa Foster #BlogTour #Review

She needs to move forward with her life,

but how can she when Carson still owns her heart?

Bad Boys After Dark #3
Melissa Foster
Releasing July 11, 2017
World Literary Press

Second chances really do exist…

As the founder of a multimillion-dollar international security business, Carson Bad exposes secrets for a living. He knows better than to forge relationships built on them. But for years he did just that with his best friend, and secret lover, Tawny Bishop. She brought a sense of calm and understanding to his life–in and out of the bedroom. Until one fateful night when a knock at the door changed everything.

Tawny is no longer a naive college student. She’s a sought-after perfumer living in Paris. She has plenty of resources at her fingertips, and lots of lonely nights to think about the only man she’s ever loved–the one she ran away from all those years ago. She needs to move forward with her life, but how can she when Carson still owns her heart?

Maybe showing up in the middle of the night unannounced isn’t the best route to unraveling the past and figuring out her future, but Tawny has played it safe for ten long years, and it’s only made her long for the man she never should have walked away from. Now she’s back in Carson’s life, and he’s determined not to make the same mistake twice. If only he knew what that mistake was…

Carson is the third installment in the Bad Boys After Dark series but can be read as a standalone. One of the things that I love about Melissa Foster is that she has a much larger series called Love In Bloom that these books are a part of too. I love how she made this whole world in which to put her characters and it shows in each book.
Carson screams bad boy. I mean he does expose secrets for a living at his international security business. He should know relationships forged on secrets don’t last but that doesn’t stop him from having one with his best friend, Tawny. She ends up running away from him though and he has no idea why. Tawny can’t get Carson out of her head. Now she’s back and he’s determined not to screw it up.
Another great book in this series! I have loved all three so far. Melissa Foster is excellent at character development and telling a story in a way that captivates you. I look forward to more from her!

Adjunct Lovers by Liz Crowe #ReleaseBlitz

A brew that brings two lovers full circle.
A Brewing Passion Novella
Liz Crowe
Releasing July 18, 2017
Totally Bound
When Ross and Elisa open their new business in Detroit, they believe they’ve embarked on a dream life, complete with their beloved, precocious daughter. But owning and running a restaurant is not for the faint of heart, and Elle quickly becomes laser-focused and obsessed, while Ross spends his days consulting, or concocting new beers on his pilot system—and wondering why she won’t agree to set a date for their wedding. When their restaurant—named “Komfort” for its focus on the comfort foods of various cultures—is featured on a nationally televised tour of hot new eateries, its popularity shoots into the stratosphere, and Elle’s stress level reaches a breaking point.
Faced with a mutual inability to communicate beyond their robust sex life, Ross issues an ill-considered ultimatum: the restaurant or him. Stunned when she refuses to consider such a ridiculous demand, he’s forced to come to terms with his own selfish tendencies. Hoping to repair the damage he’s done, he concocts a new beer inspired by her, using a recipe for a classic German-style Kölch. He crafts the final product using a special ingredient designed to catch Elle’s attention. It does. But not necessarily the way he’d planned.

“Adjunct Lovers” fills in the story begun in LIGHTSTRUCK, and provides a closer look at Ross’s and Elle’s complex personalities as they make their sexy way toward happily ever after—with the help of a very special brew.

Money Saving Mom’s Make Over Your Mornings

If you’ve been a reader here for a while then you know that I have been trying to get more organized in my life and at home. A few months ago I came across the Make Over Your Mornings course by Crystal Paine. If you don’t know who Crystal Paine is then you are truly missing out. She is known for her blog Money Saving Mom where she gives advice about money management and time management among other things. She wrote this great book called Money Saving Mom’s Budget where she walks you through the baby steps needed to set up a successful budget.

Anyways, back to Make Over Your Mornings… This is a 14-day online course designed to help you take the stress out of your morning routine. There are a series of videos and worksheets with one for each day that help prioritize your tasks. I felt rejuvenated after taking this course. It helped me stream-line the tasks that have to be done in the morning and get rid of the tasks that were weighing me down. Before I took this course I didn’t have an actual morning routine. Most days I would run late for work trying to get my daughter and myself ready. I honestly felt like I was failing at life since I hate being late for anything. Make Over Your Mornings made me realize that if I could just set up an actual routine for myself that I would not only be on time, but I wouldn’t feel like a zombie on my way to work. It was a truly amazing realization.

I’m about to give the Make Over Your Evenings class a try so look for a post on that in the future!

Keeping his eyes on mine, he calls to the barman. “Two tequilas, please.”
“Tequila,” I muse, looking over my shoulder when the salt and lemon land behind me. “Is that my challenge?”
“Crying off?” he goads, reaching into his pocket and pulling out some notes.
“Never,” I scoff, turning into the bar. I don’t know what his game is, but I want to play. With him. “You’re asking me to prove I’m sober by doing a shot?” I narrow my eyes on him, teasing. “Or is your plan to get me drunk and take advantage of me?”
He smiles to himself as he pays the barman. “You don’t look like the kind of woman who could be taken advantage of.”
“What kind of a woman do I look like, then?” I challenge quietly.
He turns into me, watching me for a few moments. “I don’t know, but I think I’d like to find out.”
I hold his gaze for a few seconds, no retort coming to me. I think I want him to find out, too, just as much as I want to find out what kind of man he is. My eyes drop from his sparkling greys, down his tall, lean frame to his feet. Oh…fuck…
“Let’s play,” he says, moving in closer and pulling one of the glasses forward. I don’t mean to, but I yank my arm away abruptly when he brushes against me, startled by the tiny stabs of pleasure that pitter-patter all over my skin. The fleeting touch tells me he would feel as good as he looks, and-give me strength-he smells divine, all manly and earthy and fucking edible.
The sudden lapse in movement and talking from both of us becomes slightly awkward. I can feel him looking down at me.
“What do I have to do?” I ask again quietly, almost on a breathy gasp.
He clears his throat. “You’re not drunk?”
“Not even the slightest bit.” I raise my nose in the air.
“Good. Then you’ll smash this challenge first time.” He places a finger on the brim of one of the shot glasses. “Brace your palms on the edge of the bar,” he orders, firm but softly. I look at him, finding a serious face. “Go on.”
Frowning, I place my hands on the edge of the bar. “Okay?”
He takes my hips. He takes my fucking hips! I freeze from top to toe and swallow hard, waiting. My insides are quickly furling, my mind in chaos. “Move back a bit,” he says, pulling at them a little until I step back.
Oh, Jesus. I’m on fire. I have a strange man bending me over a bar in public, and me, Annie I’m-immune-to-men Ryan, isn’t fighting him off. It’s like he has me under a spell. What gives? I dare not look behind me. I’m not stupid enough to think Lizzy isn’t currently watching a man manipulate my body to where he wants it.
“You feel tense,” he observes, releasing me and moving back to my side.
I don’t deny it; neither do I confirm it. His big hands felt so good resting on my hips, so much so I have to resist not claiming them and putting them back where they were. “What now?” I ask, evidently struggling for air, damn me.
“Now.” He pucks up his beer and grins. “I get to gloat that I had you bend over a bar within five minutes of meeting you.” He takes a swig, still grinning, and I hear the roar of a man down the bar laughing his head off.
Oh, the fucker! Part of me has admiration. Another part of me wants to slap him stupid; I don’t care how beautiful he is. And another part of me wants to rip his clothes from his body and ravish the sly bastard.
I cannot believe I fell for it! How many women has he played like a fiddle? I drop my head, shaking it to myself.
I knew that smile was dangerous. A man who can bend a woman to his will so easily and so soon couldn’t be anything less than lethal. And the fact that he got me with his wicked game means hats off to him. I can’t possibly take that away from him, and since I’m lacking in the dignity department right now, I decide not to slap him. Nor will I chuck a drink over his head, or fire a load of verbal abuse at him.
I’ll do what he least expects.
I push myself up and turn to face him, unable to stop myself from smiling at his half-grin. Holding his gaze, I slowly lick the back of my hand, blindly take the salt off the bar, sprinkle a bit, and take one of the shots of tequila. But as I’m taking my hand to my mouth to lick the salt up, he seizes my wrist and takes the shot from my other hand. My heartbeat accelerates, our eyes glued to each other as he moves into me and slowly brings my hand to his mouth. I watch, gripped, as he lazily licks up the salt from the back of my hand, eyes on mine, and then knocks the tequila back. Kill me now, for I will certainly die a happy woman. His tongue on my skin. His eyes boring into mine. His hold of my wrist. I must look like a statue-unable to talk, move, or think clearly.
“There’s one more tequila,” he says, cocking his head toward the bar but keeping me in his sights. “And it’s yours.”
Oh good lord. My heart is speeding up by the second as I watch him lick the back of his hand and sprinkle some salt. The he offers it to me. I stare at his hand, and then slowly look up at him. I could get lost in those grey glittery eyes.
      “I taste good,” he whispers.

Changes Are Coming

For a while now I have debated on the best way to go about this. I love reviewing books but I also want to pursue my other passions. I tried to do two separate blogs but working full-time, taking care of a family, selling Beauticontrol and running two blogs was way too stressful. I felt like there was never enough time in the day. Therefore, I have decided to combine the two blogs.

I am a planner addict and I love to make things. I will still post mainly reviews and things about books in general, but I want to have posts about planning, organizing, and crafting as well. I recently made some tabs for my planner using paint card samples and I want to show them off! lol

Starting July 30th, the schedule for The Crafty Engineer’s Bookshelf will be as follows:

Sundays- Planner Peeks/Planning
Mondays- Book Review/Book Blitz
Tuesdays- Book Blitz/Top Ten Tuesday
Wednesdays- Book Review/Book Blitz
Thursdays- Organizing/Crafts
Fridays- Book Review/Book Blitz/ Discussion
Saturdays- none
Of course, no schedule is perfect so there may be an occasional book review on days that I have allotted for something else. I hope everyone enjoys my new posts!

It’s time.
Time to get a life.
Time to start over.
Time to move beyond the past.

The guys in the Single Dads Club would tell you it was time years ago, but until recently, the risk of hurting my little girl outweighed the benefit of getting a piece of ass.

Now that I have a tween daughter on my hands? It’s becoming more apparent with every poster hung on the wall, every fight over wearing make-up and every uncomfortable conversation about puberty, that at least one of us needs a female touch in our lives.

Jesus. I can’t even think the words ‘female touch’ without thinking of her.

Charlotte Rose. Charlie.

She’s everything I shouldn’t want, but someone needs to tell that to my damn libido because every time she’s around I have a constant case of blue balls.

There’s a list of reasons why I shouldn’t give into what I feel—she’s my best friend’s little sister, she’s seen me at my most vulnerable, and the biggest one—she’s the first person in eleven years who has the potential to break me.

Snap a picture and caption it ‘Teenage boy in front of his first Playboy’ because that’s exactly how I feel right now and I’d bet that’s how I look.

Charlie stands in the doorway wearing a white bikini, her nipples hard and erect, begging to be touched. The first thing I notice is the way she doesn’t cover up, but opens the door wider, ushering me in with her free hand.

“I expected the pool guy.” Her voice changes pitch and I gather she’s as affected by this situation as I am. The only difference is, my arousal can’t be hidden.

“He’s out of town, so you got me.”

“And you can fix it?”

I stop and tilt my head her way. “Is that even a question?”

“Well,” she walks faster to catch up to me as I use a key to open up the one door that’s locked from guests. “Oh, I always wonder what’s behind these doors when I rent other people’s vacation homes.” She peeks her head over my shoulder and the scent of her perfume makes a beeline for my dick, making it twitch.

As he’s begging for an introduction, I squat to get away, but she doesn’t relent. Her tits are practically resting on my shoulder.

“Ever heard of personal space?” I remark, grabbing my tool set.

“This isn’t half as exciting as I thought it would be.” She finally moves back and I stand with the toolbox in my hands.

“Did you think there would be a dead body?”

She shrugs. “Porn maybe?”

“Why would there be porn?”

She purses her lips and looks up at the ceiling. It’s innocent and cute and I’m not sure I ever remember seeing her doing it before. “You know, the owner can’t keep it in their own house because they have a preteen daughter, so they keep their stash in the closet and watch it when there are no guests here.”

“Let me guess? I’m the guy with the preteen daughter.”

“You’re so smart. I see where Sydney gets it from.” She smiles, a mouthful of straight white teeth.

I nod and walk away. She follows.

“Do you need help?”

“Since I really have no idea what I’m fixing, I don’t know yet.” I open the screen door to the hot tub.

“It wouldn’t turn on.”

“That’s not a good sign.”

I open up the back and start working on it. The little I know about hot tubs might not be enough.

Charlie sits on the edge of the hot tub and puts her feet in, her purple polished toenails dipping in and out of the water.

“I think I deserve a discount if I can’t use the hot tub.”

I look up at her and she’s smirking.

She’s quiet for a few minutes while I fiddle around trying to figure out the source of the problem.

“I’m curious, Garrett…” she pauses and I glance up at her. “How do my tits look in this bikini?”

What readers are saying:

“Garrett is the perfect man – hard and virile on the outside and soft and squishy on the inside.” – Heather from White Hot Reads

“I am absolutely and positively in love with our bearded sexy beast, Garrett!” – Kristy France, Goodreads Reviewer

My Review

I have been waiting not so patiently for Garrett’s story. I watched Charlie pine for him in both Real Deal and Dirty Talker so I knew I wanted to see her snag him. There were times when I absolutely loved him and times where I wanted to cut his dick off for the way he was acting. I am glad we get to see what happened with his late wife although for that you will need a few tissues handy. Sydney may be my favorite of the kids so far. I thought it would be extremely hard to top Lilly’s cuteness in Real Deal but Sydney and her pre-teen problems and attitude took the cake.

Garrett was definitely a piece of work and he is lucky to have a girl like Charlie after him. A lesser woman would have gave up years ago what with the ghost of Sydney’s mom hanging around and him refusing to give love another chance. There were times when he said things to Charlie that made me see red and I was certainly happy when her brother, Vance, punched him for upsetting her. The men of Climax Cove sure know how to put their foot in their mouth but they also know how to apologize and show their ladies they love them.

I am sad to see this series end. I have loved the characters and I loved that there are cameos of characters from The Modern Love series as well. I believe with their next series, these authors won’t disappoint and I hope they continue to write together for a long time. The characters they create and the stories they tell are among the best I have read this year. I would highly recommend this book and this entire series to any romance lovers, anyone who loves to laugh, and anyone who loves a happy ending.

Rating: 5 stars

If you haven’t met the sexy single dads of Climax Cove yet, now is the perfect time to meet them!

The Scent of Roses is book 2 in the Dark Romeo series and picks up right where the epic cliffhanger of Love Sprung From Hate leaves off. Just like the first book, it is captivating and I didn’t want to put it down.

Roman and Julianna haven’t told anyone about their affair but it could still prove dangerous for them. You can almost see this book going the same way as their Shakespearean counterparts and all I wanted to do was scream at them and warn them before it is too late. This book is chock full of adrenaline and made me cry.  I literally felt like a wreck when I finished. I absolutely cannot wait for the final book! I have to know what happens ASAP!
