A simple but forgotten truth: Where harbingers of death appear, the morgues will soon be full.
Angie Dovage can tell there’s more to Reece Fernandez than just the tall, brooding athlete who has her classmates swooning, but she can’t imagine his presence signals a tragedy that will devastate her small town. When something supernatural tries to attack her, Angie is thrown into a battle between good and evil she never saw coming. Right in the center of it is Reece—and he’s not human.
What's more, she knows something most don't. That the secrets her town holds could kill them all. But that’s only half as dangerous as falling in love with a harbinger of death.

Review

I have been impatiently waiting for this book ever since Entangled: Teen sent an email out about it back in February. The cover is gorgeous and the blurb is intriguing. I didn’t know just how intriguing it was going to be. Part of me was scared that I was wanting to read it so badly that it wasn’t going to be good.

Angie doesn’t like being in the spotlight. She made national news when she was younger and it was not for something that she wants to be remembered for. Reece is the new boy in town and the only one who Angie wants to notice her. However, he isn’t quite human being a harbinger of death and all. His family and he have been living with this curse for over a thousand years. Angie’s town is going to be the site of a disaster and Reece swears to keep Angie safe.

There is a horror element to this story in the form of psychosis-inducing bees that someone called a Beekeeper releases on people. I’ll let you read the story for yourself to find out more about that though. There is plenty of action in this book and I didn’t want the story to end. This is an excellent debut. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

Review

Melt is a great romantic comedy. I loved that there was no unnecessary drama in the relationship between Samantha and Jake. We get to see two people fall in love and they didn’t let their past relationships ruin the one they were in. I felt for Samantha at times with her being a single mother. It’s hard to date and have a kid because you never know if the person you are seeing wants kids or not. Lennon is a rambunctious three-year-old and I thought she was funny.

Also this book combined two of my favorite things: ice cream and alcohol. I wish there was an alcoholic ice cream truck that came through my neighborhood!

Excerpt

A few days after witnessing the aftermath of a buzz bomb explosion, Pat visits her dentist:

The world gradually righting itself, by the following Wednesday I allowed the bright midday sun to warm me through as I made my way to the junction of Acre Lane by the Town Hall. My dentist’s was in a Victorian building above a shop next but one down from a rest centre on the opposite corner for bombed out people. I wondered whether any of the survivors of the Beechdale Road bomb were staying there. As I climbed the stairs, the dentist popped his head round the door of his surgery at the front, saying, ‘Oh, good, you’re early and the person before you’s not here so I can get on with it straight away.’

Taking up the dentist’s offer to numb the tooth and gum, I waited about twenty minutes for the injection to take effect, passing the time chatting to the receptionist in the small rear waiting room.

‘Ready now?’ I followed Mr Marshall back into his surgery and settled back, watching a desultory bird swooping outside the window facing the chair.

After a bit of prodding Mr Marshall picked up the drill and started. A moment or two later I thought the drill was developing a fault for it seemed to get gradually louder and even more growly. Mr Marshall stopped drilling but the buzzing didn’t and we looked at each other in consternation. The sound arrived overhead and suddenly cut out. No words were needed. Mr Marshall threw down the drill, grabbing my arm as I hauled myself out of the seat, and we dived for the door, squeezing through together and throwing ourselves to the floor of the corridor as the V1 exploded.

Review

Alice Graysharp is a new to me author and I am impressed. I was drawn in by the premise of this book being set around the Second World War. I am fascinated with this time period and love reading books about it.

The Keeping of Secrets is about Patricia Roberts who has all these family secrets that she hangs onto. We meet her when she is 15 in London and is about to leave to go with the other children to safety. She moved around a lot growing up and was told to trust no one. We see the toll this takes on her and any relationships she forms as she becomes a woman. Three different men fall for her and each one she is unable to trust. Will she be able to tell her deepest secret? Or will it stay buried?

I really enjoyed this book and the writing. The descriptions were incredible and it felt like I was right there with Pat. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Rebel is book 3 in The Renegades series by Rebecca Yarros. I am a huge fan of her writing because she hits you right in the feels every time.

Rebel is the only girl in a group of daredevils and she is a bad ass. She has defied all gender barriers and doesn’t let anything hold her back. Cruz is a man she met a bar and had a fling with. He is irresistibly hot with lickable abs and he doesn’t let her dangerous job get in the way of his feelings for her. He doesn’t tell her she has to quit. The only thing that really stands in their way is the fact that he’s her professor making their romance forbidden.

I seriously didn’t want this story to end and I am sad that it is the last book in this series. I have loved this series so much!

The Real Thing kicks off a brand new series for Melissa Foster called the Sugar Lake series. As with all of her books, Melissa gives you a romance that is sugary sweet yet hot with some humor mixed in as well. She has easily become one of my top go-to authors for romance that is low on angst but can still give you all the feels.
Willow has known Zane since childhood since he was her brother’s best friend. Before she left for college, she asked Zane to take her virginity and they both buried that night afterwards. It’s been ten years and a lot has changed; Willow owns a bakery and Zane is an actor. He asks Willow to pretend to be his fiance to help him land a role and she can’t tell him no. Both of them are afraid the other will break their heart. Will they finally tell each other their true feelings?
I loved these characters and this story. I can’t wait to read the next book!

Review

I don’t normally read paranormal romance. It just typically isn’t my style but I decided to give Drift a try. I liked that the paranormal elements tended to take a background in this story. They weren’t over the top and I really enjoyed the premise of being able to time travel to past versions of oneself to right a wrong.

Abby always thought her mom was crazy until the day she realized that she could look into her past at a memory that was definitely hers but not at the same time. She understands that her mom must have been able to do this as well. James comes into her life right before she discovers these things and she feels as if she’s known him for years. He starts appearing in her visions and they soon discover maybe they are soulmates.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. I didn’t care for the transition between present and past all that much but it didn’t take anything away from the book.

Review

A Love to Remember is book 7 in the Disgraced Lords series by Bronwen Evans although it can be read as a standalone. I’ve skipped around this series and have only read 4 books so far but I love these characters.

This is the story of Rose and Phillip. Rose was married at the age of 18 to her father’s friend, the Duke of Roxborough. He was more than twice her age and to say she was glad when he died would be an understatement. The one good thing that came from that marriage was her son, Drake. She has no desire to remarry and is known to the ton as the Wicked Widow. The one man who could change her mind about marriage is her lover of two years and childhood friend, Phillip.

Phillip, the Earl of Cumberland, lives with a lot of guilt since his brother, Robert, died taking a sword that was meant for him. He blames himself for Robert’s commission in the army and takes a vow to let the Earldom pass to his younger brother by never marrying or producing an heir. When Rose admits she wants more or their affair must end, he is torn. He wants to be with Rose but not in marriage. When Drake’s life is threatened, will he realize that maybe he has been too hard on himself and that he indeed loves Rose? Or will it be too late?

I love this series and Bronwen Evan’s writing. This is exactly what I’ve come to expect from the Libertine Scholars and I love devouring their stories. I say devour because so far I have read them all in one sitting. I look forward to reading the rest of this series and I might even re-read them all in order one day.

Review

How to Marry a Marquess is the third book in the Wedded by Scandal series by Stacy Reid. I really enjoyed this book and the characters. Evie is 16 and Richard, 24 when we first meet them. Evie is distraught about the affections of an old Duke when Richard finds her. It was a humorous scene since Evie was puking and Richard covered it with a shovel.

Evie is being pushed to marry and she wants to marry Richard. He has been burned by women in the past and betrayed by one he loved and he has no intentions to marry. He surprises the ton when he discovers he has a daughter and moves her into his estate to take care of her. That just wasn’t done during those times and he is afraid that Evie won’t accept his daughter. Basically, they both have feelings for the other but neither thinks the other feels the same.

I loved that this book had a more modernish feel to it for a historical romance. It always makes me happy to see the characters defy what the ton expects of them and this book was very enjoyable because of that. I look forward to reading more in this series.

Confessions of a Former Puck Bunny is book 4 in the Taking Shots series. I’ve read the second book and this one and they can be read as standalone.

Lindsay calls herself a “Former Puck Bunny” since she has sworn off all hockey players after one breaks her heart. She used to eat, sleep, and breathe hockey… well hockey players. Now she wants nothing to do with them. Until Ryder comes along and makes her want to break her rule.

I really enjoyed this book! It was funny and cute and just an overall great read. I love Lindsay! She’s funny and I loved her confessions throughout the book. I would highly recommend.
