Tori…
For the record, I’m not going to hook up with my boss.
I’m a lot of things—a screwup, a basket case, a flunky. But when I take a nanny job to be near my pregnant sister, I swear to myself I’ll walk the straight and narrow, which means I cannot fall for my insanely hot boss.
I don’t want to be tempted by that rugged rancher. By his chiseled muscles or southern charm or the way he snuggles his kids at bedtime. Ethan Carter won’t get the key to my heart, no matter how much I want him.
Ethan…
Between us, she’s the last thing I need as I finalize my hellish divorce.
What sane man trying to rebuild his life wants a hot nanny with long, sexy hair, curves for miles, and a smart mouth? A perfectly kissable, pouty mouth that I shouldn’t notice.
My focus is on my kids and my ranch, not the insufferable siren who sleeps in the room next to mine. It doesn’t matter that she wins over my kids in a heartbeat or runs my life better than I do. Tori Duran is the one woman I can’t have and shouldn’t want, no matter how much I crave her.

Review
It never fails when I read a Lex Martin book, that I will not be able to put it down and will literally be up all night trying to finish. Reckless is a prime example of this. I love Tori and Ethan and how they both have troubles but neither of them lets that hold them back. There is tons of angst and ignoring the attraction between them, but when you mix romance with the boss/employee relationship, things are bound to be tricky. Add in that Tori is the nanny to Ethan’s boys and they love her and that just ups the pressure for why nothing should be started between them. There is a lot going on in the story and that gives it a more realistic feel. This is a definite must read.

Nina Barnes thinks Valentine’s Day should be optional. That way single people like her wouldn’t be subjected to kissy Cupids all over the place. That is, until her mom moves them next door to the brooding hottie of Greenbrier High, West Smith. He’s funny, looks amazing in a black leather jacket, and he’s fluent in Harry Potter, but she’s not sure he’s boyfriend material.

West isn’t sure what to make of Nina. She’s cute and loves to read as much as he does, but she seems to need to debate everything and she has a pathological insistence on telling the truth. And West doesn’t exactly know how to handle that, since his entire life is a carefully constructed secret. Dating the girl next door could be a ton of fun, but only if Nina never finds out the truth about his home life. It’s one secret that could bring them together or rip them apart.

Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book is not for anyone who has to get in the last word, but it is for all book nerds, especially those who live next door to so called unapproachable gorgeous guys. There’s no debating the chemistry.

Review

Nina and West both have family issues that have impacted the way they handle certain situations. In Nina’s case, it has made her not tell lies and have trust issues. For West, he doesn’t like dust or dirt and won’t bring anything new into his house. Essentially they are both weird in their way so it makes sense that they would hit it off. The way their relationship progressed felt like a true high school relationship and I really enjoyed it.

They both like Harry Potter but I felt the mention of that was just a little too forced at times. While their reactions to West’s mom hoarding was dramatic and some might call it insensitive, I thought it was realistic. Most teenagers do not realize that is a mental illness and just because someone is physically well doesn’t mean they aren’t sick.

I thought Gidget stole the show with her cuteness and shedding fur. The fact that she has a happy food dance was adorable and I can totally picture a golden lab doing exactly what was described. I want a big lap dog now.

The pace of this story was a little slow but I found it to be an enjoyable read without angst. It’s a good book for when you are stressed out and need to escape for a bit.

On Thin Ice by Piper Rayne #BlogTour #Review

On Thin Ice, an all-new hilarious and romantic addition to the Bedroom Games Series of standalones from bestselling authors Piper Rayne is available NOW!

PROnThinIceIceBookCover5x8_HIGH

The Winter Games have begun…

I’m the life of the party. A little loud and some buzz kills might say obnoxious, but if you’re around me I guarantee you’ll have a good time.

Unless your name is Demi Harrison.

If that’s the case, you’d act like I’m the devil incarnate and go out of your way to avoid me. Which makes zero sense because at the last Olympic Games I rocked her world.

Whatever though. I need to concentrate on winning gold anyway. I was at the top of the standings coming into the games, but since arriving in Korea I’ve lost my edge.

I was never one for superstitions, but I can’t deny that there’s only one difference between my previous medal winning games, and these ones—her.

I’ve pulled off amazing feats in the past, but getting Demi to agree to sleep with me throughout the games might require divine intervention.

Excerpt

“What was that?” Demi asks, unzipping her coat.

I lay back down on the bed. “Nothing. I’m here to pay my debt.”

She smiles, the one where her entire mouth opens and shows all her white teeth. The one I don’t get to see nearly enough.

“Yeah, sorry, I was just getting off the hill when you texted me. I have to shower quick. My mom, ugh, she just won’t let me rest for a moment.”

“Pushing you, huh?” Guessing that we won’t be getting down and dirty under the sheets for a while, I sit up and rest my back on her headboard.

She hangs up her jacket and then bends over to take off her boots. God, her ass is on point.

“She expects perfection, you know? Like I get it that she medaled in three Classics and that she’s an excellent skier, but I have coaches. Coaches that are a hell of a lot more patient with me.”

Off go her socks, and then her shirt.

I sit back admiring the strip show she’s giving me without her realizing.

Her thumbs hook into her yoga pants. “I mean, does she think I’m out there trying to fuck up? I’m flying down a hill at seventy miles per hour. I want to say yes, I did that move so I could straddle the line between paralyzation or death. UGH!” She stands there in only her bra and panties. A matching blue set that makes my dick twitch in my pants.

“Your mom just wants you to do well.”

She looks me directly in the eyes, her two hands reaching behind her back and then the blue fabric glides down her arms until she throws it into her hamper. “For her or me?”

Her nipples are hard and ready for me, and my mouth salivates, wanting so badly to lick the budded peaks.

“You. I’m sure it’s for you,” I say when she doesn’t respond.

She shakes her head, her hands sliding her panties down as she steps out of them, throwing them to join her other dirty clothes.

“Come here.” I hold my hand out for her.

She takes the elastic out of her hair, the long reddish strands falling over her freckled shoulders.

“I’m dirty and I probably smell.”

I grab hold of her hand and yank her to me.

“Did you really think you could strip in front of me and I’d just sit here and wait for you to shower?”

Her million-dollar smile warms her face. “You could join me.”

“I was wondering when you’d ask.”

Ever since meeting Dax and Demi in Cold as Ice, I have been anxiously awaiting the chance to read their story. Dax is so arrogant and full of himself and I knew Demi was going to knock him down a few notches. I love their story and Dax grew on me by the end (that sentence would make him giggle). Another fantastic story in this series and I love the setting of the Winter Classics and getting all of the snowboarding in there too. Another must read from Piper Rayne.

Forced to travel through Texas as the new Girl in the Box, Emmaline is completely trapped. Breaking the curse seems like her only chance at freedom, but with no curse, there’s no charm, either—dooming everyone who calls the Carnival Fantastic home. Including the boy she’s afraid she’s falling for.

Review

I don’t normally read young adult fantasy but this book caught my eye with its pretty cover and intriguing synopsis so I figured I’d give it a try. I’m so glad I did. The whole concept of everyone in the circus being protected by a charm except for one person who is cursed was fantastic. The characters were extremely likeable and I love that the romance has such a slow build to it. It’s a nice change from all the insta-love in the book world. There isn’t just an overwhelming amount of magic in the story and I thought it was blended perfectly in to give it a nice twist. I can’t wait to see what this author comes up with next.

Review
The Baby Maker has everything I’m looking for in a great book. The characters are fun, the romance is hot, and the story itself left me wanting more. I literally can never get enough of Lili Valente’s books. She creates a world in each one that I want to live in. This one is definitely no exception.
The men in Dylan’s family are known for knocking women up so when Emma decides she wants a baby more than expanding her vineyard, she knows exactly what she needs to do. It helps that Dylan is hot and wants the land she is buying. The fact they have explosive chemistry is just icing on the cake so it doesn’t take much to convince Dylan to go along with three months of baby making. I mean really what guy is going to turn down three months of no strings attached bedroom fun in exchange for knocking a girl up and not even having the responsibility that comes with that. The only problem is that the more time they spend together, the more their attraction grows.
This book was fun and hot. I loved both of these characters and Ms. Valente did an excellent job with these two. I can’t wait to see what she writes next!

For one charming playboy, getting cast on a Bachelor-esque reality TV show is the shock of a lifetime—until he finds love where he least expects it.

Gage Barrett’s reputation as a ladies’ man has been greatly exaggerated, but none of that matters after a drunken bet lands him on Jilted, a reality TV show that matches runaway grooms with wannabe brides. Now he’s stuck at a Hawaiian resort with nineteen women competing to drag him back to the altar—and one contestant who’s even more miserable than he is. Gage has no idea how feisty, independent Ellie Wright wound up in the cast, but it’s obvious she hates his guts. And if there’s one thing Gage likes, it’s a challenge. . . .
Ellie can’t believe she let her best friend talk her into exchanging her dignity for a glorified bikini contest. Still, she could use the exposure—her business is struggling—and she’ll probably be one of the first to get eliminated anyway. But Gage isn’t the shallow jerk Ellie anticipated—and he’s in no rush to send her home. As stolen kisses turn into secret trysts, she finds herself losing track of what’s real and what’s for the camera. With the wedding finale looming, this runaway groom is tempting Ellie to start believing in storybook endings.

 Review
I have been dying to read this book since I read Ready to Run and it did not disappoint. Gage is one of Hollywood’s hottest actors who of course has a playboy reputation as the runaway groom. This makes him the perfect contestant for Jilted, the bachelor-esque show that ends not in a proposal but a wedding for the one who has left multiple women at the altar. Ellie goes on the show to promote her t-shirt company but of course the rules state no advertising is allowed. She intrigues Gage who is dealing with nineteen other women who are all over him trying to win his affection. It doesn’t take long for Gage and Ellie to strike up a friendship but with all the craziness in the house and Ellie wanting nothing more than to go home, things don’t look promising for these two.
Gage and Ellie may just be my favorite couple ever. They don’t have to try hard to connect. They are naturally comfortable and the setting they are in is anything but. The other women are super catty other than maybe Paisley who I will say is my favorite supporting character. I literally couldn’t put this book down and read it in a couple of hours. It was so good and I would recommend everyone read it. If you’ve never read Lauren Layne before, this is a good one to start with.

It may be Winter Games, but the bedroom games are about to begin…

Competing in South Korea on the world stage is hard enough.

Having to spend the entire press tour beforehand with a woman who hates me?

Karma really is a bitch.

While she’s spent the last four years loathing me, I’ve spent them ignoring the guilt that gnaws at my stomach.

All Mia Salter cares about is that I’m her brother’s ex-best friend and it’s her duty to hate me. The funny thing is, I barely noticed her back when she was trying to keep up with us on the slopes. Now, as both of us prepare to go for gold, I’m seeing her in a whole different light—and it involves a whole lotta different positions.

No one said the path to the Olympics would be easy.

Excerpt:

I turn my attention back to Candice. “So, are we celebrating something?” I ask.

“Great idea.” Candice raises her hand to flag down the waitress.

The red-haired waitress, Natalie, stops at the edge of our table, an array of empty hot chocolate mugs on her tray. “Hey Rogue,” she says and then looks across the booth from me. “Mia.” Her eyes widen and she does a double take at the both of us.

Yeah, you got it right. Grady Kale and Mia Salter are sitting at the same table together.

“What can I get you?” she grants Candice her undivided attention.

“I need a bottle of champagne.”

“I don’t drink champagne,” I mumble.

“Me either,” Mia murmurs.

Candice’s attention moves from me to Mia and then back to Natalie. “Well, I do. Just a glass then.”

“I’ll grab that for you now.” Her hand lands on the edge of the table, pausing for a second. “Rogue, do you want anything else?”

Mia scoffs, but when my gaze shoots in her direction, she pretends to concentrate on her Bloody Mary.

“Um…yeah, Nat, can you grab me an Amstel?”

Nat’s knuckles knock the wood table. “Sure thing.”

She’s a good distance away before Mia’s gaze stops following her. She has to know Nat, she’s the owner’s daughter and one of Mia’s biggest fans.

“Surprise, surprise, another female who caters to Grady.”

Candice ignores Mia’s snide comment. “What’s up with the Rogue thing?” she asks, sipping her mix drink.

Mia snickers, twirling her celery around in her drink. “That’s what they call him because he only cares about himself.” She looks across the table, daring me to argue with her.

“How’s that?” Candice asks, a little warily.

I bet she knows for sure now that having both of us as clients is a bad idea.

“My friends started calling me that when I was younger because of the tricks I’d do. I’d try stuff no one else would dare to.” My eyes bore over at Mia, but apparently her drink is still more interesting than me because she can’t meet my gaze. “I set myself apart.”

“More like you isolated yourself. I think your nickname should be changed to Ogre.” She laughs to herself, pulling the piece of celery from her drink, smiling to herself.

“Okay, you two. I know there’s history, but we have to remain professional,” Candice says.

“Ogre, huh? I don’t think you were staring at me yesterday like I was Shrek.”

Nat comes back, placing a glass of champagne in front of Candice and a beer down in front of me. I lift the bottle to my lips as Nat slides a plate of pickles, celery, olives and a pepperoni stick in front of Mia.

“Thanks, Nat.” She grabs the pepperoni stick and chomps down on it aggressively. “I love biting down on a good piece of meat.”

Nat glances to me and then hurries off to help some other customers. I wish I could go with her.

“There wouldn’t be a problem if you kept us in our assigned corners,” I say to Candice.

“Unfortunately, that’s not a possibility. Why do you think I’m celebrating?” She lifts her champagne.

Mia’s foot falls to the floor and she lets the celery plop back down into her glass then leans forward, fixing her eyes on Candice.

I swivel in my seat, giving Candice all my attention.

“What exactly are you celebrating?” I ask.

Candice’s smokey grey eyes move between the two of us and then she plasters on the fakest smile I’ve ever witnessed, and I’ve seen many. “You were both chosen to represent the snowboarding team on a press tour. Yay!”

Mia leans back in the booth, downing the rest of her Bloody Mary. “Not going to happen.”

Once again, Mia Salter and I see eye-to-eye about something.

Review

I am a huge fan of Piper Rayne so when I heard they were writing a new series I was stoked. Cold as Ice is a phenomenal start to this series about a group of snowboarders and their journey to the Winter Classics. It’s funny and romantic and the characters are so much fun and easy to relate to even with them being professional snowboarders.

Grady is sexy and I loved him a lot! Mia is such a strong female character and I want her to be my best friend. I loved these two together and I really enjoyed their story. As always the supporting characters were great as well and I can’t wait to read the next story in this series. I already know that I want to know as much as I can about these couples which is pretty much par for the course when it comes to Piper Rayne’s books.

Winter in Mississippi

So far this winter has been the weirdest we have seen in Mississippi in a while. Since the prompt for this month’s Blog All About It challenge is winter, I thought I would share what winter has been like the past couple of weeks.

Typically here in Mississippi, we don’t get a lot of snow. We normally get ice and when we do get anything it isn’t much and it is normally in March right before spring actually starts. When we do get anything, everyone freaks out and runs to the store for bread and water and it’s chaotic to say the least. Oh and everything pretty much shuts down since no one knows how to drive on a normal day let alone on an icy one.

On January 12th, we got a lot of ice that caused the roads to be extremely hazardous so naturally everyone freaked out. I didn’t leave my house that day. I didn’t want to chance wrecking even though I can drive pretty well in those conditions thanks to my dad teaching me how to properly drive on ice. This was the view from my front porch.

The following Tuesday we got hit again but this time it was 3 inches of snow. The roads were again pretty bad because part of them had never unfrozen and then everyone driving on them packed the snow down and caused ice. I took my daughter over to my parent’s house that day and let her play in the snow since we don’t have a yard.

To say she loved it would probably be an understatement. I had a hard time getting her to come back in even though she was obviously pretty cold. This is the first time in a while that we’ve had enough snow to play in and it stuck around for a couple of days since the temp. didn’t get above freezing.

I used to think that I hated winter and although I hate being cold, I rather enjoyed actually getting snow and going outside to play in it. I did not like the ice though. I ended up falling one morning on my way to the car and banged up my knee pretty good.

Do you like winter? How has yours been so far?
