A horse race in trousers on Rotten Row. Visiting a gaming hall in a dress that would make her mother faint. Sneaking an invitation to a masquerade ball attended by only the wickedest, most debauched members of society…
None of these things are scaring off bookish but strong-willed Amelia Bishop’s stuffy, egotistical fiancé.
The only thing left is to entice childhood friend Nicholas Wakefield into a truly engagement-ending scandal. The Wakefields are the height of propriety, and Nicholas’s parents have made it clear a wife from the neighboring Bishop family would be unacceptable…
But Nicholas would give up his family and his fortune if Amelia would ever see him as more than just a childhood friend. He’ll go along with her scheme, even if it means ruining them both, because he’s got a plan that will change her mind about him being merely the boy next door.

Amelia’s family have been outcasts in society since her older sister Julia was born with a disability. That didn’t stop Nicholas, the second son of Lord and Lady Wakefield, from becoming friends with both sisters. Nick and Amelia have always liked each other but were both too afraid to admit it. Now Nick has been summoned home after two years abroad to find his father losing his mind and Amelia engaged to Embry. Amelia thinks Nick could never be attracted to her and is surprised when just being near him gives her tingles. She doesn’t feel that way when she is with her fiance. Speaking of Embry, he is older and was previously engaged to the woman he loved but it ended when she tragically died. He is trying to make Amelia fit the image of his beloved and will go to any means to marry her including blackmail. Amelia tries to call off the engagement after Embry insults her sister but he will not have it. What follows is hilarity at its finest with several attempts at causing a scandal to become single again. Of course Amelia will need help from her sister, Nick, and Nick’s friends and we also get introduced to Jasper, the heir to the Duke of Albemarle, who is quite scandalous himself.
I really loved this cast of characters except for Embry and Lady Bishop but seeing as one is the villain it’s not surprising. I felt that Amelia went through a lot during her engagement and I loved when she finally put her foot down and stopped letting her family tell her what to do. Nick was quite swoon-worthy but could be a real jerk at times. He was dealing with a lot as well though and did eventually fix his wrongs. Julia was so fascinating. She didn’t let anyone pity her and if they tried she made sure they saw the error of their ways. I cannot wait for her story. I loved Jas and hope to see more of him in the next book.

To win a race to Paris, dashing Lord Boyce Parker hires a balloon. He expects to be crowned the victor and become famous for his courage and intelligence. Only then can he regain his father’s respect from the scandal of publishing the naughty book The Rake’s Handbook: Including Field Guide.
Bluestocking Miss Eve Mountfloy makes a bargain with the handsome Pink of the Ton. She’ll fly the balloon during the dangerous crossing to France, if he lets her finish her scientific experiments to predict violent storms and thereby save lives.
Eve proceeds with her studies, but the results are not what she expected. Chafing to keep warm creates unusual sensations everywhere. Then when Lord Parker asks if she is curious about the heat generated by a kiss, well, she is curious. It seems Lord Parker is performing experiments of his own that will forever change Eve’s perception of the word "results."

Review
When a Rake Falls is the first book by Sally Orr I have read. I must say that I wasn’t all that impressed. I liked Boyce and Eve but this story was lacking continuity. There were times where it was really hard to follow what was happening and it got confusing. There is a lot of scientific talk in the middle of the story that in my opinion takes away from the story. I’m all for science and talking about science but it didn’t help this book out. I love that Eve is a female scientist and that Boyce helped her with her experiments. However, I think there was too much detail focused on those and not enough elsewhere. I got really bored halfway through and probably should have just given up but I don’t like not finishing a book.

Carson by Melissa Foster #BlogTour #Review

She needs to move forward with her life,

but how can she when Carson still owns her heart?

CARSON
Bad Boys After Dark #3
Melissa Foster
Releasing July 11, 2017
World Literary Press

Second chances really do exist…

As the founder of a multimillion-dollar international security business, Carson Bad exposes secrets for a living. He knows better than to forge relationships built on them. But for years he did just that with his best friend, and secret lover, Tawny Bishop. She brought a sense of calm and understanding to his life–in and out of the bedroom. Until one fateful night when a knock at the door changed everything.

Tawny is no longer a naive college student. She’s a sought-after perfumer living in Paris. She has plenty of resources at her fingertips, and lots of lonely nights to think about the only man she’s ever loved–the one she ran away from all those years ago. She needs to move forward with her life, but how can she when Carson still owns her heart?

Maybe showing up in the middle of the night unannounced isn’t the best route to unraveling the past and figuring out her future, but Tawny has played it safe for ten long years, and it’s only made her long for the man she never should have walked away from. Now she’s back in Carson’s life, and he’s determined not to make the same mistake twice. If only he knew what that mistake was…

Carson is the third installment in the Bad Boys After Dark series but can be read as a standalone. One of the things that I love about Melissa Foster is that she has a much larger series called Love In Bloom that these books are a part of too. I love how she made this whole world in which to put her characters and it shows in each book.
Carson screams bad boy. I mean he does expose secrets for a living at his international security business. He should know relationships forged on secrets don’t last but that doesn’t stop him from having one with his best friend, Tawny. She ends up running away from him though and he has no idea why. Tawny can’t get Carson out of her head. Now she’s back and he’s determined not to screw it up.
Another great book in this series! I have loved all three so far. Melissa Foster is excellent at character development and telling a story in a way that captivates you. I look forward to more from her!

It’s time.
Time to get a life.
Time to start over.
Time to move beyond the past.

The guys in the Single Dads Club would tell you it was time years ago, but until recently, the risk of hurting my little girl outweighed the benefit of getting a piece of ass.

Now that I have a tween daughter on my hands? It’s becoming more apparent with every poster hung on the wall, every fight over wearing make-up and every uncomfortable conversation about puberty, that at least one of us needs a female touch in our lives.

Jesus. I can’t even think the words ‘female touch’ without thinking of her.

Charlotte Rose. Charlie.

She’s everything I shouldn’t want, but someone needs to tell that to my damn libido because every time she’s around I have a constant case of blue balls.

There’s a list of reasons why I shouldn’t give into what I feel—she’s my best friend’s little sister, she’s seen me at my most vulnerable, and the biggest one—she’s the first person in eleven years who has the potential to break me.

Excerpt:

Snap a picture and caption it ‘Teenage boy in front of his first Playboy’ because that’s exactly how I feel right now and I’d bet that’s how I look.

Charlie stands in the doorway wearing a white bikini, her nipples hard and erect, begging to be touched. The first thing I notice is the way she doesn’t cover up, but opens the door wider, ushering me in with her free hand.

“I expected the pool guy.” Her voice changes pitch and I gather she’s as affected by this situation as I am. The only difference is, my arousal can’t be hidden.

“He’s out of town, so you got me.”

“And you can fix it?”

I stop and tilt my head her way. “Is that even a question?”

“Well,” she walks faster to catch up to me as I use a key to open up the one door that’s locked from guests. “Oh, I always wonder what’s behind these doors when I rent other people’s vacation homes.” She peeks her head over my shoulder and the scent of her perfume makes a beeline for my dick, making it twitch.

As he’s begging for an introduction, I squat to get away, but she doesn’t relent. Her tits are practically resting on my shoulder.

“Ever heard of personal space?” I remark, grabbing my tool set.

“This isn’t half as exciting as I thought it would be.” She finally moves back and I stand with the toolbox in my hands.

“Did you think there would be a dead body?”

She shrugs. “Porn maybe?”

“Why would there be porn?”

She purses her lips and looks up at the ceiling. It’s innocent and cute and I’m not sure I ever remember seeing her doing it before. “You know, the owner can’t keep it in their own house because they have a preteen daughter, so they keep their stash in the closet and watch it when there are no guests here.”

“Let me guess? I’m the guy with the preteen daughter.”

“You’re so smart. I see where Sydney gets it from.” She smiles, a mouthful of straight white teeth.

I nod and walk away. She follows.

“Do you need help?”

“Since I really have no idea what I’m fixing, I don’t know yet.” I open the screen door to the hot tub.

“It wouldn’t turn on.”

“That’s not a good sign.”

I open up the back and start working on it. The little I know about hot tubs might not be enough.

Charlie sits on the edge of the hot tub and puts her feet in, her purple polished toenails dipping in and out of the water.

“I think I deserve a discount if I can’t use the hot tub.”

I look up at her and she’s smirking.

“Funny.”

She’s quiet for a few minutes while I fiddle around trying to figure out the source of the problem.

“I’m curious, Garrett…” she pauses and I glance up at her. “How do my tits look in this bikini?”

What readers are saying:

“Garrett is the perfect man – hard and virile on the outside and soft and squishy on the inside.” – Heather from White Hot Reads

“I am absolutely and positively in love with our bearded sexy beast, Garrett!” – Kristy France, Goodreads Reviewer

My Review

I have been waiting not so patiently for Garrett’s story. I watched Charlie pine for him in both Real Deal and Dirty Talker so I knew I wanted to see her snag him. There were times when I absolutely loved him and times where I wanted to cut his dick off for the way he was acting. I am glad we get to see what happened with his late wife although for that you will need a few tissues handy. Sydney may be my favorite of the kids so far. I thought it would be extremely hard to top Lilly’s cuteness in Real Deal but Sydney and her pre-teen problems and attitude took the cake.

Garrett was definitely a piece of work and he is lucky to have a girl like Charlie after him. A lesser woman would have gave up years ago what with the ghost of Sydney’s mom hanging around and him refusing to give love another chance. There were times when he said things to Charlie that made me see red and I was certainly happy when her brother, Vance, punched him for upsetting her. The men of Climax Cove sure know how to put their foot in their mouth but they also know how to apologize and show their ladies they love them.

I am sad to see this series end. I have loved the characters and I loved that there are cameos of characters from The Modern Love series as well. I believe with their next series, these authors won’t disappoint and I hope they continue to write together for a long time. The characters they create and the stories they tell are among the best I have read this year. I would highly recommend this book and this entire series to any romance lovers, anyone who loves to laugh, and anyone who loves a happy ending.

MY REVIEW:

The Scent of Roses is book 2 in the Dark Romeo series and picks up right where the epic cliffhanger of Love Sprung From Hate leaves off. Just like the first book, it is captivating and I didn’t want to put it down.

Roman and Julianna haven’t told anyone about their affair but it could still prove dangerous for them. You can almost see this book going the same way as their Shakespearean counterparts and all I wanted to do was scream at them and warn them before it is too late. This book is chock full of adrenaline and made me cry.  I literally felt like a wreck when I finished. I absolutely cannot wait for the final book! I have to know what happens ASAP!

I hate my new roommate.
And I want to do dirty, delicious things to her in that swing she installed that we both know has nothing to do with aerial yoga.
Neither of which is good, considering Diana Daniels is my NHL team captain’s little sister, and he will break my face if I’m not a perfect gentleman.
I try to be. Really, I do. But when Diana runs screaming down the hall wearing nothing but a damp washcloth, all my gentlemanly intentions go out the window. She’s got all sorts of Jedi mind tricks to make a man obsessed with getting her into bed, and I’m not gonna lie—I fall for every single one of them.
Especially the one where she warns me not to fall for her.
***
Everyone knows that banging your new roomie is a bad idea. And if it wasn’t for his sister’s stupid pet pig, Wanda, chasing me out of the bathroom mid-shower, Tanner Nowicki and I might still be able to pretend we hate each other.
But that pig totally has it out for me, and before I can warn Tanner that I don’t do relationships—or hockey players or my brother’s friends, for that matter—he’s doing me. Against the wall. And in his bed. And in my bed. And on a pinball machine where we get an all time high score.
And it’s so incredible that I start to forget that I’m the unluckiest woman alive when it comes to relationships. And pigs. And aerial yoga. And worst of all, love.
But hey, it’s not like I didn’t warn him…

Review
Puck Aholic is the third book in the Bad Motherpuckers series with each book reading as a standalone. The series is about a hockey team, meaning a lot of connections throughout the books (friends, family, etc.) This is Tanner (rookie) and Diana’s (Brendan’s sister/player) story.
Tanner has just finished up his rookie year and decides he needs to keep his focus by having zero summer flings. He’s not an one-night-stand kind of guy so he can totally do this. Then Diana comes strolling into the scene, saves his life on a beach and is his new roommate. As if that isn’t complicated enough, she happens to be his team captain’s sister! Complicated isn’t even the word for it now.
Diana has sworn off relationships since every one that she has been in has ended in disaster. She thinks it’s going to be easy but then her roommate ends up being the guy who pisses her off and turns her off at the same time. She thinks maybe they can have a hook-up and things will be okay until she discovers that he isn’t the friends-with-benefits type.
I think the funniest part of the book to me is the fact that Tanner has a pig and said pig doesn’t like Diana. I love that it was included in the story and it gave me plenty of giggles. This is a fantastic roommates to lover story that has a different feel to it with Tanner being a relationship guy and not a manwhore.
Lili Valente doesn’t disappoint! I honestly don’t think she could no matter how hard she tries. Puck Aholic is another must read!

Review
Legacy Strain is the final book in the Isolation series by Taylor Brooke. It is an incredible conclusion to this series. The story is so intense and I didn’t want to put it down. I had to know how it ended even though I didn’t want it to end.
There is a lot of different emotional things taking place in this book; trust, betrayal, secrets, lies, hope, denial, confusion, sacrifices, etc. It will make your head spin a little as you try to keep up with everything that is going on. However, it is written in a way that you get a conclusion for every single character and it is so intricate in the details that what you thought you knew may not be the truth.
I liked the diversity in this book with the LGBT+ community being represented in a way that the characters sexual orientation wasn’t the main focus, it was just part of who they are. It’s rare to see that done and it was refreshing because it seemed more realistic and not like a flashing sign saying “Look at me”.
I’m a little torn on how I feel about Brooklyn and Julian now though. So much has happened during the course of that series and they changed a lot. Also, there is something that is revealed that was a little shocking to me and makes me want to not like a character that I initially loved. I don’t want to give anything away so that is all I will say on that subject. I would highly recommend this entire series.

In Vanessa Kelly's captivating series, three young women are descended from royalty--in the most improper way. But that doesn't stop them from pursuing lives rich in adventure. . .
Lia Kincaid, illegitimate daughter of the Duke of York, comes from a long line of notorious women. Raised by her grandmother, formerly mistress to the late Marquess of Lendale, she has little hope of a respectable marriage. But the new marquess, her childhood friend, Jack Easton, would make a very desirable protector . . . if he weren't too honorable to take her to bed.
It's bad enough being saddled with a title he never desired. Now Jack must resist the beautiful woman he desires far too much. Duty calls, and he is duty-bound to choose a wealthy bride. But then Lia makes another outrageous suggestion: asking Jack to devise some tests to find her the perfect paramour. Tests that involve flirting, kissing, and other pleasurable pursuits. Tests that, in a matter of weeks, could transform friendship into the ton's greatest scandal, igniting a passion even duty can't deny. . .

Three Weeks With a Princess is the second book in Vanessa Kelly’s The Improper Princesses series. This series plays off her Royal Renegades series and is about the illegitimate daughters of titled men who are living their lives to the best of their abilities and fighting off the stigma of their birth.

Lia is the daughter of the Duke of York and comes from a long line of “notorious” women. She is raised by her grandmother who is a former mistress of a Marquess. Given her family’s reputation and her birth she doesn’t expect to have a fortuitous marriage so she doesn’t care what anyone thinks and won’t take advice or help from anyone.

Jack has a title he doesn’t want and that requires him to marry a woman with a substantial dowry. He wants to help Lia on her path to marriage and he wants to protect her, but he doesn’t consider her as a romantic option.  They have been somewhat friends since childhood but Jack’s mother always made sure there was a distance created and kept. He doesn’t want to treat her like the other women in her family have been treated but she has little objection.

Gillian and Charles from book 1 are featured strongly in this book and I was glad to learn more about them. I loved their characters and Gillian could see what was happening and played a matchmaker of sorts. The banter between Lia and Jack was perfect and their arguments were humorous. I really enjoyed watching their relationship grow and change as well as Lia’s character development. I look forward to more in this series.

Review
Storming the Castle is book 3 in the Dale series by Arianna Hart but it can be read as a standalone. This is the first book I have read by Ms. Hart and I enjoyed it. It’s not what you would expect from a rocker romance and has a more down to earth feel to it.
Sam has basically been living out of a suitcase for the last couple of years. He is a little burnt out on the rock star life and needs some time to himself. He rents out a little bed and breakfast in Dale so that he can get some much needed alone time to clear his head and write for his album. The owner of the bed and breakfast is a single mom who enjoys the quiet life. Faith has worries of her own and tries not to worry about her surly guest.
Of course they have an intense chemistry that they try to ignore but in this sweet contemporary romance, there is bound to be a HEA. The characters are great and I really liked Faith’s daughter. I love stories that involve a single parent and this one even had the added drama of the paternal grandparents appearing. I’d recommend to anyone wanting to read a sweet romance.

About Arianna Hart

Arianna Hart enjoys spending time with her family, reading anything she can get her hands on, and of course writing! “Don’t let go.” Those were my first words to him, as I hung over the side of a London bridge. The words I would soon say again, in a moment that didn’t involve bridges, but something much more fragile: my heart.

He held onto me for three weeks, in a time when I needed to be held. Needed to connect to someone who understood how loss tunneled unrepentantly through the fabric of your soul.

Although he said he’d stay, we both knew he wouldn’t. I had already survived one loss—I didn’t know if I’d survive another.
Ames

She spun into my life like a tornado of smiles and chatter and everything else I’d long avoided, with a persistence that I admired, albeit begrudgingly. She broke down each neat wall I’d constructed without even trying. Her presence alone caused me to remember what it felt like to smile, to look forward to what the day would bring.

But it was only supposed to last three weeks.

“Don’t let go,” she’d pleaded.

I’d promised her I wouldn’t—but I would. I didn’t have a choice.
Review
This is one of the hardest reviews to write because after reading The Weight of Life I didn’t know how to accurately describe just how good this book is. Whitney Barbetti has such a way with words that I always have a terrible book hangover when I get done with one of her books and need a day or two to recover before I can even think about reading anything else.
Mila and Ames are two strangers who meet unconventionally but yet they have an established connection. The character development is phenomenal and you aren’t thrust into their world and forced to love them. The way it is written allows you to slowly get to know the characters and what is going on in their lives so that you naturally grow to love them. I didn’t want to put this book down nor did I want it to end. It truly reminded me why I love to read romance.
Rating: 5 stars
I like nachos and champagne and clean sheets. I spend far too much time at Starbucks. I wrote a couple books
