Burning Cold
Lisa Lieberman
(Cara Walden Mystery, #2)
Publication date: September 12th 2017
Genres: Adult, Historical, Mystery

Budapest: 1956. Newlywed Cara Walden’s brother Zoltán has disappeared in the middle of the Hungarian revolution, harboring a deadly wartime secret. Will Cara or the Soviets find him first?

Cutting short her honeymoon in Paris to rescue a sibling she’s never met was not Cara’s idea, but her husband Jakub has a reckless streak, and she is too much in love to question his judgment. Together with her older brother Gray, they venture behind the Iron Curtain, seeking clues to Zoltán’s whereabouts among his circle of fellow dissidents, all victims of the recently overthrown Communist regime. One of them betrayed him, and Cara realizes that the investigation has put every person they’ve met at risk. Inadvertently, they’ve also unmasked a Russian spy, who is now tailing them in the hope that they will lead him to Zoltán.

The noir film of Graham Greene’s The Third Man inspires Lisa Lieberman’s historical thriller. Burning Cold features a compelling female protagonist who comes to know her own strength in the course of her adventures.

Burning Cold is the sequel to All The Wrong Places but it can be read as a standalone.

This is a very well written historical mystery. You can tell that Lisa Lieberman did her research when writing this series and it’s always nice to read a well-written, well- researched historical novel. In Burning Cold, we are transported to 1956 Budapest. Cara and her brother Gray are on a mission to find their older brother, Zoltan, who they just learned about. All of this takes place while in the middle of the two waves of Soviet soldiers intent on stopping the Hungarian revolution.

I really enjoyed this book and the way the author is able to make you feel as if you are in Budapest with the characters experiencing every situation as they do. I look forward to reading more from this author and hope there are several more books in this series to come.

Rating: 4.5 stars

She’s Penna Carstairs. The Renegade they call Rebel. FMX-treme Magazine’s sexiest female athlete of the year. There’s no rule in extreme sports she hasn’t broken,No gender barrier she hasn’t demolished.
She’s the woman I met in a bar in Vegas. The woman I illegally BASE jumped for.The woman I spent one insane, incredible night with. But now I’m screwed.Or rather...not screwed.
Because the woman I can’t get out of my head is the one woman I can never touch again.I’m Dr. Cruz Delgado—the youngest professor on this campus,And Penelope Carstairs just walked into my class.
Each book in The Renegades series is a standalone story that can be enjoyed out of order. Series Order:Book #1 WilderBook #2 NovaBook #3 Rebel

Rebel is book 3 in The Renegades series by Rebecca Yarros. I am a huge fan of her writing because she hits you right in the feels every time.

Rebel is the only girl in a group of daredevils and she is a bad ass. She has defied all gender barriers and doesn’t let anything hold her back. Cruz is a man she met a bar and had a fling with. He is irresistibly hot with lickable abs and he doesn’t let her dangerous job get in the way of his feelings for her. He doesn’t tell her she has to quit. The only thing that really stands in their way is the fact that he’s her professor making their romance forbidden.

I seriously didn’t want this story to end and I am sad that it is the last book in this series. I have loved this series so much!

Monthly Wrap-up: August 2017

August was a busy month and I have no idea how I managed to read as much as I did. Towards the end of the month I started participating in a couple of planner swap groups on Facebook and I’ve been having fun getting items together to send out as well as making some of the items. I’ve been slacking on some of the posts that I was wanting to do as far as planning and crafts go but that should change in September. I can’t wait to show you what I’ve been working on.

The Real Thing by Melissa Foster #BlogTour #Review

This sassy, spirited baker is fine with heat—
but is her fake fiancé too hot to handle?
Sugar Lake #1
Melissa Foster
Releasing Sept 5, 2017
Bakery owner Willow Dalton’s friendship with Zane Walker has always been a bit complicated. Now a scrumptiously hot A-list actor, Zane’s always had a reputation as player. He’s arrogant, and he’s definitely not boyfriend material. Sure, he did Willow a favor by agreeing to take her virginity before college, but is that reason enough to go along with a fake engagement a decade later—even if it comes with a real diamond ring?
Zane should have known better. Nothing involving Willow has ever been easy. Still, he knows her better than anyone, and becoming America’s hottest new leading man means cleaning up his reputation. An “engagement” to curvy, sass-mouthed Willow is the perfect PR move . . . provided no one gets hurt.
Now Zane and Willow’s little white lie has turned into an irresistible recipe for sweet temptation. And soon no one will be able to tell the difference between their fake engagement or the real thing—including them.
**THE REAL THING is being published by Montlake (an Amazon imprint) and won’t be available on other ebook retailers, but you can download a FREE ereader app to read it HERE, order the paperback.
Releasing December 5th, 2017
The Real Thing kicks off a brand new series for Melissa Foster called the Sugar Lake series. As with all of her books, Melissa gives you a romance that is sugary sweet yet hot with some humor mixed in as well. She has easily become one of my top go-to authors for romance that is low on angst but can still give you all the feels.
Willow has known Zane since childhood since he was her brother’s best friend. Before she left for college, she asked Zane to take her virginity and they both buried that night afterwards. It’s been ten years and a lot has changed; Willow owns a bakery and Zane is an actor. He asks Willow to pretend to be his fiance to help him land a role and she can’t tell him no. Both of them are afraid the other will break their heart. Will they finally tell each other their true feelings?
I loved these characters and this story. I can’t wait to read the next book!

“Are you leaving soon?”

“In a bit. I want to see the end of the game.”

“Really now?” He leaned in close to her again. And for what was probably the fiftieth time that night she could smell the clean masculine scent that clung to him. Soap and maybe a little aftershave combined with him. He smelled incredible.

So. Damn. Good.

“Yeah, I’m a Stampede fan now. I’m in it to win it.” She couldn’t stop herself from leaning in a bit closer herself.

“Commitment, I like it.”

“Yeah.” His smile grew and his eyes got more intense, the blue getting deeper. “It’s not the only thing I like either.”

“What else do you like?” Her voice dropped low as she spoke. Oh God, the more time she spent with him, the more he affected her. The closer he got to her, the more he affected her. The more he looked at her, the more he affected her.

He just affected her.

“About you? The list keeps growing, and growing. Give me twenty minutes and I’d be happy to tell you about it. In great detail.”

Her stomach flipped and the air in her lungs caught. This time her inability to breath had nothing to do with suffocating pressure. “What happens in twenty minutes?” She somehow managed to ask.

“The game is over.” He turned just a little bit so he could incline his head toward the TV, not taking his eyes off of her while he did it.

“You don’t need to stay here? Until closing?”

“Nope, just came in to help with the rush during the game. I’m free after that.”

“Right,” she nodded slowly, her stomach doing a summersault. “And if I said yes? What happens then?”

He moved back so that he was standing directly in front of her again, leaning in close. The nearness of him combined with the way he was looking at her and the topic of conversation—that she was 99.9% sure was one about them having sex—was making her pulse race. And that wasn’t the only thing he was doing to her. It was taking everything in her not to squirm in her seat. She somehow managed to subtly press her thighs together. It was all she could do to combat the swelling ache.

About Shannon Richard

Shannon Richard grew up in the Florida Panhandle as the baby sister of two overly protective but loving brothers. She was raised by a more than somewhat eccentric mother, a self-proclaimed vocabularist who showed her how to get lost in a book and a father who passed on his love for coffee and really loud music. She graduated from Florida State University with a BA in English Literature and still lives in Tallahassee where she battles everyday life with writing, reading, and a rant every once in a while. Okay, so the rants might happen on a regular basis. She's still waiting for her Southern, scruffy, Mr. Darcy, and in the meantime writes love stories to indulge her overactive imagination. Oh, and she's a pretty big fan of the whimsy.

The Future of Us by Aubrey Parker #BookBlitz

The Future of Us

(The Future of Sex, #12)
Publication date: September 3rd 2017
Genres: Adult, Romance, Science Fiction

Love doesn’t matter. Romance doesn’t exist.

(The final installment in The Future of Sex series)

In the year 2060, sex is a game of extremes. No desire is unexplored and even the unimaginable is possible.

Alexa Mathis, head of the monolithic O Corporation, has found a prodigy she believes will drive her sex empire to rapturous new limits: Chloe Shaw, a common girl with uncanny gifts that make her a powerful escort.

Chloe doesn’t believe in love. She believes in ecstasy, and her employer’s newest tool to usher “the future of sex”: an intelligent network known as The Beam.

And so it is until she meets Andrew … and the whole world changes.

The Future of Sex is a 12-part serial that is being published in installments. As such, episodes are short and sometimes end on cliffhangers.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo

She looked at Andrew for a long second, then let the moment hang.

There were no words. Only the strange miasma between them: pain, and anger, and betrayal, and untruth, and love.

Mostly love.

But love didn’t erase the negatives. Her heart wanted to forgive him. He even had good excuses — interestingly, provided for her by Alexa rather than Andrew himself. Through her version of events, Chloe had come to see how tightly Andrew had been bound and how hard he’d fought to extricate them both.

But no matter what she understood and no matter how great the love behind it all, Chloe still felt the hurt. She still felt the betrayal.

“You were the person I went to when I felt like everyone was against me, Andrew. You were my port in the storm.”

It wasn’t a loving thing to say, and Andrew knew it. She wasn’t wrapping verbal arms around him. She was telling him how completely she’d bared her soul before he’d plunged his twisting knife inside her.

“I know.”

“My only friend in the city is Slava, and we only got closer after Voyos. She covered for me, you know. When I was on Voyos, I was supposed to be working. I was supposed to be with clients, but I didn’t want to be. So, I never worked alone. I was always with Slava, and I let her do all the work so that I could stay true to you. But what kind of backward notion is staying true to you in this day and age?”

Andrew looked touched, but he hid his smile. He hadn’t earned the right and knew it.

“My mom was no help; she was half my problem. The way things were changing at work was another one, and the weird shit they had me doing at work — stuff I’m only understanding now — was yet another. Everything was uncertain. So much still is. Everything but you, Andrew. You were the one person I could talk to. You were the only thing I thought I could count on.”

Andrew exhaled, clearly crushed. He looked like he wanted to apologize again, but it was still Chloe’s turn to speak.

“That’s the worst part of this. It’s not that I thought I loved you. It was that I’d been so careful not to truly love anyone other than my family, then decided to break my own rule and ended up regretting it. The mental wall I told you about? I took it down. I figured that there wasn’t any point. Let sex and love mix, I told myself. I couldn’t bring myself to have sex with other guys, so I tore that division all the way down. Just you and me. I’d find ways to adapt to my job, even if it meant less money and fame. What could it possibly hurt?”

She looked at Andrew, then back down.

“I told you about how much O was confusing me. How uneasy they were making me. They were experimenting on me like a lab rat, Andrew! And who did I go to for comfort? You — a part of the problem. You weren’t my safe place. You were part of the experiment.”

“I didn’t want to be. Not after I saw where it was headed. Not once I got to know you.”

“But you were,” Chloe said.

And Andrew nodded. “Yes.”

I don’t normally read paranormal romance. It just typically isn’t my style but I decided to give Drift a try. I liked that the paranormal elements tended to take a background in this story. They weren’t over the top and I really enjoyed the premise of being able to time travel to past versions of oneself to right a wrong.

Abby always thought her mom was crazy until the day she realized that she could look into her past at a memory that was definitely hers but not at the same time. She understands that her mom must have been able to do this as well. James comes into her life right before she discovers these things and she feels as if she’s known him for years. He starts appearing in her visions and they soon discover maybe they are soulmates.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. I didn’t care for the transition between present and past all that much but it didn’t take anything away from the book.
