A LADY OF LIGHT
Refined, kind, and intelligent, Lady Iris Jordan finds herself the unlikely target of a diabolical kidnapping. Her captors are the notoriously evil Lords of Chaos. When one of the masked-and-nude!-Lords spirits her away to his carriage, she shoots him…only to find she may have been a trifle hasty.

A DUKE IN DEEPEST DARKNESS
Cynical, scarred, and brooding, Raphael de Chartres, the Duke of Dyemore, has made it his personal mission to infiltrate the Lords of Chaos and destroy them. Rescuing Lady Jordan was never in his plans. But now with the Lords out to kill them both, he has but one choice: marry the lady in order to keep her safe.

CAUGHT IN A WEB OF DANGER…AND DESIRE
Much to Raphael’s irritation, Iris insists on being the sort of duchess who involes herself in his life—and bed. Soon he’s drawn to both to her quick wit and her fiery passion. But when Iris discovers that Raphael’s past may be even more dangerous than the present, she falters. Is their love strong enough to withstand not only the Lords of Chaos but also Raphael’s own demons?

Review

Duke of Desire is book 12 in the Maiden Lane series. It’s the first book in this series that I have read so I was a little lost on some things but I don’t think it took away from the story. However, I pick up books in the middle of a series quite often. 😉

Iris has been kidnapped by the Lords of Chaos in a case of mistaken identity. They plan to sacrifice her in a ritual but one of the members saves her and offers her protection through marriage. Her reputation is ruined so she marries him. He’s the Raphael, the Duke of Dyemore and he is determined to bring down the Lords of Chaos and stop the evil they commit.

Raphael is emotionally scarred because of the things his father did to him as a child. His father used to be the leader of the Lords of Chaos and that’s why he is so determined to bring them down. I will say that the Lords of Chaos do really evil things that are quite gruesome so if that’s not your cup of tea, you might not enjoy this series. These are real things that happen in the world though. I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would and I want to go back and read the rest of this series.

About Kristen Ashley

Kristen Ashley grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana, and has lived in Denver, Colorado, and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multigenerational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland, and Kristen grew up listening to the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon, and Whitesnake.

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

Miles Halter is fascinated by famous last words-and tired of safe life at home. He leaves for boarding school to seek what the dying poet Francois Rabelais called the "Great Perhaps". Much awaits Miles at Culver Creek, including Alaska Young. Clever, funny, screwed-up, and dead sexy, Alaska will pull Miles into her labyrinth and catapult him into the Great Perhaps.

Review

This is the first book I’ve ready by John Green. (I know, I know how could I have not read A Fault In Our Stars? It’s on my TBR list.) I must say say this book was incredible and I want to read everything he’s ever written. There are parts of this book that I will not be able to talk about because I refuse to reveal any spoilers that will ruin this book for anyone else who may not have read it yet. I will say that this book was definitely not what I was expecting but I think it was better because of it.

This book is written from the view point of Miles Halter, a skinny 16 year old nerdy guy who is fascinated by famous last words. This fascination leads him to seek his “Great Perhaps” by attending boarding school at Culver Creek where he meets his roommate “the Colonel”, a boy named Takumi, and a girl named Alaska Young. Miles falls in love with the beautiful, intelligent, mysterious, unattainable Alaska.

The book is divided into the Before and the After, but you don’t know what the turning point is exactly until it hits. The Before is made up of mundane happenings: going to class, pulling pranks, doing stupid things, and hooking up. The central discussion in the book is about Simon Bolivar’s last words: “How will I ever get out of this labyrinth?”

So what’s the labyrinth? I asked her…

That’s the mystery, isn’t it? Is the labyrinth living or dying? Which is he trying to escape-the world or the end of it?

When the After comes, the “labyrinth” becomes an important question encompassing all characters.

This book is about how one person can influence another person’s life. I like the way Alaska is presented as mysterious and moody. I feel that most teenage girls and are that way and though we don’t know a lot about her, this book is about the way she influences Miles. Miles is such a relatable character especially for people who were nerds and didn’t quite fit in during their high school years.

Verdict: Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it! There are several good quotes in this book and it makes you think.
